Forgive me, for I have sinned (non U.S. coin)*FINAL GRADE*

Does this have a shot at 69 DCAM, or does the white spot on the head kill it?

Just got the grade from PCGS on this as a "MS69". Considering that none of the 10,000 total mintage were business strikes, I have to assume that the MS designation is an error. I was on the phone with PCGS customer service about this, and they need to look into it more to see if the correction is warranted. So its a 69, but the question still remains....will it DCAM???

Edit to add on June 9th: Final grade is in....its a PCGS PR69DCAM....this makes the coin worth about $2,500- $3,000 (2 listings on ebay currently, both asking 3k and 3.2k)

It is a tad out of focus, but based on the pic, you think its just a PF67?

    no way to tell.
  • Looks good to me.

Ultra deep fields, heavy cameo devises. Yup should be a deep cameo.
how much did you pay for that coin, if you don't mind me asking.

The low grade of 67 was merely a net grade based on focus. Not a serious comment on the actual grade of the coin.

Based on the pics, it could be a reflection, but I assume you know it is a spot. The head of the panda also seems less frosty than I would expect.

I'm thinking that if it were a DCAM, you wouldn't be able to see the spot on the head. I just don't see the frost thick enough on the head for DCAM and in today's standard I think you'd be pushing CAM.

Are you sure its real? Aren't those supposed to have the weight and fineness on them?

I have heard of imitation Pandas coming out of China that are just plated base metal, that omit the references to weight and fineness lest they offend the Chinese government (which doesn't care if you make fake U.S. coins, but that's another matter).

Bring it by and I'd be happy to check the weight and specific gravity for you. Call first, as my hours are still irregular while I am doing physical therapy.

Tom, check your Krause book, weight and fineness didnt start until the 1989 silver pandas. I weighed this on a digital scale here at home. 27.0 grams exactly. I know there are fakes galore, but the "indicator" is the denomination. Most fakes will not carry this as it becomes a crime against the Chinese government. I believe that there is a 99.99% chance this coin is authentic based on who I bought it from. What do you think about CAM vs. DCAM on this though Tom?

Should DCAM, but I don't have any experience with how the services categorize bullion coins.

My "sin" was actually asking about this coin in this forum. I know it should be darkside forum fodder, but that forum moves about as fast as old people "you know what".image
