This is one of 20 I had graded, and the best , bell line wise, out of a bankwrapped group of 160 coins. I thought it would 64, which it did, but PCGS did not designate it as FBL, which I think it should. The mark to the left of the crack is a strike through, and you can see the bell line detail continuing through it. The soft area to the right is less than 1/16th of an inch.

The 1953-S is known for having "good strikes" but most of the time, they miss on the FBL. From the pic, there seems to be weakness on the upper bell lines, particularly on the near left.
<< <i>Too many hits for it to go FBL, but it's still a very nice coin. >>
I agree. It looks to be close but there look to be some hits along the lines. Very nice coin.

And there it falls short. The planchet void to the left of the crack may disqualify it as well (at PCGS).
That is a well struck Pass and Stow!
and they're cold.

Send this one in for review with 5 weaker FBL designated slabs.

NOT. Hits aren't bad.

The 1953-S FBL situation is one that could certainly use some consistency in TPG grading.
Ronyahski : you have seen far more FBL 53-S's then me !
