  • If we have to pay in gold and silver can the US government afford to allow Gold and Silver to rise in price!

I believe if we had to pay our debts in gold and silver, we would WANT the price to rise, unless you believe that Fort Knox is empty like some conspiracy theorists.

    What debts?

The only debt I know of is the money the US Government owe's to the Federal Reserve Bank.

  • Don't you know Lee the US is Tillions of dollars in debt! Growing by the minuite! I know what your going to say but the Fed just keeps on printing, but it all has to come to an end somewhere! Now where is it?
  • Do you think the US would exchange $ for that Gold found in Iraq?
  • To me I would think they would, is it ethical, I think not!

If the worlds or our U.S. becomes cash strapped. We should all pool our coins and buy our own island. After we settle, then we must buy tanks. ammo and rockets to protect our island. Whatever coins are left we can play Holdem poker and exchange to each other everynite when it isn't our time to catch fish for the fish fry.image
  • If the government did exchange $ for the gold they would want the price of gold and silver to rise, so they could dump on the market for a double or triple play or any play of their choosing. So to me for Gold and Silver to rise makes a lot of sense at this time. When they want to cause some real damage they sell into the top and it fall like a rock...they buy back in and repeat until satisfied! They can do this because they are the manipulator they call the top and the bottom. Not a bad thing but not ethical either, but hey you figure the Iraq people have no use for it at the moment! Thing is they play long and short! They could make a lot of money if they are smart! Only they know when it will stop, in the mean time we need to play along with it...In my opinion they will never come back to the Gold Standard, why should they! They can play this gold game unitl the $ regains it's strengh, While the people on both sides of the War suffer.

Now we're cooking YaHa image. Oh, and also: dlimb2,
In order to articulate to many of those who refuse to even respond to a thread when incorrect English is used, I would advise you to edit the thread title. To:
"If the U.S. Dollar is so worthless, then... " ( this gives us inconclusive ponderance as to the dollar's real value and the opportunity to answer the statement ).

    Or, if you meant :

"If the U.S. $ is worth less than"... (this compares the dollar to some other commodity or asset)

However, some guys or gals read the title and think : 'This guy is incoherent". I don't mean to sound rude or anything, but proper use of our language is essential in effectively communicating ideas, feelings, etc.

Thanks for your patience with me.

If I could run a business the way the US Government runs this Country, I'd be a milionaire tomorrow and a billionaire by the end of the minth.

    Where will it end?

I don't think anybody knows for sure but historically speaking, it will end.

The world will gladly accept your dollars. It is only supermodels and delis in NYC that dont want dollars.

As is typical in financial markets no one wants to buy when an asset is on sale so that asset languishes. Eventually it rises and everyone says woulda, coulda, shoulda.

Really? When was the last time you tried paying in dollars overseas? None of the merchants I tried to pay with dollars in parts of China, Thailand, Malaysia would accept them and that was nearly 6 years ago when the federal reserve note was valued higher than what it is. Heck the Chinese were downright rude about it.

ALL told me to take them to an exchange outlet.

I have a question for you. Why can't we get paid back from Iraq for the war? They have the resourses to repay the debt but too many bleeding hearts complain about this. Bleeding hearts have turned this country into bleeding wallets at the pump! The us dollar is weak because the world sees us as weak.

As far as china not taking dollars. What would you do if someone wanted to pay you in Yen?

The us dollar is weak because the world sees us as weak.

I can't comment on the other parts of your argument. But this statement is so far from the truth that it's laughable.

The only reason the US dollar is weak is because the Fed is printing endless amounts of it everyday and flooding the world economies with it. Couple this with the huge US deficit and you have a perfect recipe for a dollar that is going down in value.

Remember your history...no currency has survived when it was strongly debased. Time will only tell if the US dollar can reverse the downward spiral it's on or not.

I would be happy to get paid back. But I would like to start by not continuing to spend my money to police another country. If Bush had to pay $10 of his money to bay for his war you can bet it would be over by now.

I am looking at recent history with that staetement. Look at the 80s. The world knew we were weak and inflaton was rampant then we get a strong president and what happened. While I don't agree with how bush has handled the war over there I do bieleve it was the right thing to do. Not only from a moral standpoint but from an economical one. Handled correctly we could have accomplished both. Couple the slanted media coverage and an overall lack of a spine in Washington and you get what we have. I have seen first hand the good that we are doing over there. The world knows we don't have the stomache to follow through. Why do you think Iran feels so emboldened. I am not educated in all matters of the economy but I do know that there are things that happen that can't be explained by a spreadsheet.

How much less would the fed have to print if politicians weren't allowed to buy votes through pork and social welfare?

I apoligize for calling anyone an idiot. I meant to say uninformed. Most people that are that against the war or call us murderers haven't been there and are getting all of their info from CNN.

    Bash away.
If I was half as smart as I am dumb Iwould be a genious
  • The lack of spine is because none of them ever fought in a war! Like I say a Nation is only as strong as its people and that includes the President and Vice President! You go to the Middle East with Halliburton printed on your forehead and your there for one reason and one reason only! It was right to invade Afghanistan but we had no business in Iraq! You have two NON MILITARY LEADERS leading a war which they totally know nothing about, or how to fight a war, calling the shots and this is what you get! It is costing Us plenty in LIVES and $$$, while our infrastructure is falling apart at home. Bush thinks he is going down in History as a Great President! I am afraid he will be labeled the Sorriest the United States has ever known!
  • Sure Sept. 11th as a horrific attack, but I believe there were those who knew about it and did nothing to stop it...This would have been hard on any president...But they were warned and did not take head to any of it until after the fact, it was just to late! Can it happen again between now and November you bet it can! Even a Natural Disaster would do us much harm now...but there are still Strong Americans left here in this country who do have backbones and we will stand and defend to take our Nation back!

I kinda think the worst president thing is a stretch. I don't think Bush is entirely at fault. How easy would it have been for Roosevelt or Truman to conduct a war with The media showing only the worst parts of it. I just wonder how much money it would have cost us if we hadn't gone there and Saddam invaded Saudia Arabia.

No matter what your opinion on the war is I think we can agree that if we were allowed to drill our own oil we wouldn't even be having a debate about this. But I can see where the mating habits of a moose or something is more important the the lives lost in the quest to find or create a stable supply of oil elsewhere.

Countries like Israel, Egypt, Pakistan, Jordan, Peru and many others still take our dollars, that our country foolishly gives away in military aid. I did not hear about them rejecting this money.

The people of Iraq, the oldest civilization on earth, did not invite us in to irradiate Hussen! Their war has been on going for thousands of years and for our Government to come in and change it...is totally a joke! To ask them to pay for it, I think not just because we were not invited. Bush invaded Iraq because of the United States was told he had Weapons of Mass Destruction...remember all the anthrax scares and such at the White House and other government buildings. Well they never really found any but they said they found evidence of them having them at one time...so what does that tell you?

I think you are ignoring all of the weapons we found that did contain chemical agents. Those got swept under the rug by the media pretty quickly. And I am glad that the Germans invited us to stop Hitler.

Our dollar is far from worthless. Still worth 60% of what it was in 2001 (and 3-5% of 1913 values).

If you want worthless go check out the inflation rate in Zimbabwe which is on the order of 1920's Weimar Republic inflation.

No one wants the world to know there was a BIG mistake made! But most do know, they spent years of searching for those Weapons of mass destruction prior to the invasion and never found a thing...and that is the reason we have had no financial help.

Before it goes Poof I have to add I agree with the poster who posited that the US $ has sunk to new lows is because the Fed is printing them like gangbusters coupled with the huge Budget deficit.

I might add that the huge current account balance deficit attributable to our huge import/export trade imbalance also contributes to the devaluation of the US $

+3 before it really goes Poof!

In response to the undercurrent thread(s); Yeah, I agree "W" is probably the worst President in modern history. The war in Afghanistan is the just and right war in response to the airplane suicide missions against the WTC towers, Pentagaon and the aborted Flight 93 that crashed in Shanksville.

But, launching an unprovoked, unprecedented war against Iraq in response to 9/11 is the equivalent to bombing Mexico in response to the attack on Pearl Harbor!
