How many coins on Tv Shows in Dealers stores or websites have been picked through.

I was sitting down at the dinner table the other night and my 13 year old Y/N asked me Dad, when I see brand new coins in a box opened on Tv or when we go to shows do you think those coins can pull a perfect grade of 70. He was shaking his head and saying some people are fools to think this. I told him it is very slim to none. I also told him if he ever leaps or jumps when he is viewing any coin make sure the box is sealed. But how many single coins coming from the mint is ever sealed in the first place.

So my question to you coin hogs and coin monsters out there, could there be a chance of hell freezing over that a coin that has been opened but still in a plastic capsule being display by a dealer or TV show be worth a perfect grade.

I read somewhere once that HSN sent in 20,000 ASE coins and they asked for a min.grade so those low graded coins were a MS or Pr 68 or lower were send out to the general public as Gem minted coins yes, but! the general collectors never will know the true value of their coins because they keep them as are. They will never know what one little tick or nick will do to a grade.

  • Coins that went to grading services for like HSN for example have definately been gone through for MS/PR 69 or 70 so what is left raw is lower grade stuff. Small time dealers, shop owners etc alot of times dont do high grade slabbed moderns and their raw stuff in packaging has not been gone through.
