Significant HR's in mlb history

Babe Ruth (called shot)
Bobby Thompson (the shot heard around the world)
Reggie Jackson (all star game in Detroit)
Carlton Fisk (game 6...75 world series)
Bucky Dent (at Fenway)
Reggie Jackson (3 HR's against Dodgers)
Kirk Gibson (walk off against A's in World Series)
Hank Aaron (715 off of Downing)
Mantle's 500+ shot
Williams shot half way up right field seats in Fenway

Red Sox team hitting 4 in a row against Yankees at Fenway. Never saw that before in my life.

These are some that I can think of, but there are many, many more. I believe George Brett had 3 in one game
against the Yankees in the 70's in the playoffs. I think 1 came off of Gossage late in the game, but I'm not too sure.

Perhaps Joe Carters walk off against the Phillies ? What are some that you remember ?

That shot that Pujols hit off that choker from Houston. I still don't know if it was a homerun or not- I don't think it's landed yet. That dam thing was a blast. I remember seeing Pettitte in the dugout, his jaw almost hit the floor or it could have been something with the roids.

Wrigley Field 1938... Cubs v Pirates and Cubs catcher Gabby Hartnett hits an HR in the 9th and basically in the dark to beat Pittsburgh and win the NL pennant for Chicago. One of the greatest moments for Cub Fans

I agree with Williams in the AS Game - but what about Ruth "calling his shot" in the 32 WS? Isn't that the most "famous" of all? If not that - then Mazeroski's has to be #1. It was the first World Series that many folks saw on TV in color. It was a Game 7 9th inning shot. It is the only HR that ever ended a WS in Game 7. Carter's was in Game 6. Some of my other favorites were: Magglio's in 06 to end the ALCS. Puckett in Game 6 in 91. Frank Robinson hitting one OUT of Tiger Stadium and then OUT of Fenway right of the Flagpole in left center (McGwire did this in the HR Derby in 99 also). Also, doesn't Mantle hitting one out of Griffith stadium rank as one of the most legendary?

In terms of longest HRs, I think Frank Howard has hit afew that they are still looking for...

I think he hit 3 in his last game
  • ESPN did their most important HR's of all time and they went the politically correct route with Aaraon's 715th.
    That was ridiculous.

To me it has to be Bobby Thomson's "shot heard round the world", mainly cuz the Giants were down when he hit it, in the one game playoff.

The 3 home runs that the Babe hit were his last 3 but not in his last game. Although, they were all hit in one game. They were monster homeruns at Forbes Field. What a legendary player.

The Third Man? Best movie ever made - seriously. Never had there been a better setting (burned out Vienna in 1948) with better actors - Welles, Joseph Cotton and Alida Valli (and an incredible character actor supporting cast - like Bernard Lee), along with arguably the best score ever and comedy, suspense, action and intrigue - BEST.MOVIE.EVER. I could watch it every day and see something new. Carol Reed is the most underrated director of all time.

I like it so much, I want the Harry Lime theme played as my body is being lowered into the ground at my funeral - for the double entendre of my loving the movie so much and the Harry Lime theme insinuating that the body isn't really in the casket.

    Thank you for noticing.

Close? Really? Moore committed suicide in large part because of that home run. Lidge is pitching better than he ever has this year and is on his way to being an All-Star with his ridiculous stats. I wouldn't put too much stock in a HR that merely prolonged the inevitable for the Cards that season. The HR had an effect on Lidge but in terms of significant HRs in history, it's not even on the radar screen.

Definitely The Third Man and yes it is a great film. While I appreciate the comments about Reed as a Director, I think Welles is still underrated as a Director even though Citizen Kane widely acknowledged to be the greatest US film ever made.

Carters HR screwed up Mitch Williams more than Pujols's screwed up Lidge.

Maz's HR is probably the most famous in modern times. I do think Aarons 715 is top 10. The Ruth called shot is still disputed whether he called it or just waved a hand at the dugout right?
