Future Value of Tiger Woods AUTOS

Do you guys think that Tiger Woods autographs will be worth amazing money in the future, say 20 years from now? A BGS 10 of his 2001 SP Authentic sold for over $16,000. PSA 10 and BGS 9.5's of this card sell for between $5000 & $6000, up from about $2000-$2500 three years ago. Remember seeing this card on buy it nows for $2000.

Do you think these Tiger Woods AUTOS will hold their value at around 5k to 6k or not?

    I doubt it.

He could still be signing for decades.

Exactly. Plus, I've noticed in going to 6-7 tournaments/year that he's signing a bit more than 3-4 years ago. The only things that will hold value are signed golf balls which he completely refuses to sign and has since 1996. It's the bain of my existence. I have 37 unique Masters winners on signed balls - all except H. Smith/R. Guldahl/J. Demaret and yes, Mr. Tiger Woods - OYE!! You can't even think of picking up an authenticated one for less than 2K.

The actual price spike is because he ISN'T signing anymore. In the past 3 years he has only signed a handful of certified autograph
cards. We need to keep in mind the difference between certified cards and other autograph cards. Certified cards sell for much more
than anything that you or I could get for items Woods signed in person for us.

This and the fact that no other golfer looks even decent now a days, is what has pushed Woods cards over the top. Right now
he is injured, so right now there isn't much pushing his cards. I think right now is a GREAT time to sell.

just my personal opinion. If UD and Woods agrees on another deal, his card prices will plummet!

It's funny, while not completely true, it almost seems like when it comes to Tiger Woods cards, it's night and day. Night being his virtually worthless, overprinted, etc., etc., 2001 Upper Deck which goes for $20.00 to $30.00 in PSA 10 or BGS 9.5 and day being a certified auto which goes for thousands. I know he has his GSV card, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of the "middle of the road" cards for Tiger.

no need to be sorry these high sale numbers on ALL Tiger Woods cards has only been true for a few months or so. It puzzles me that
his SPA RC could sell for only 1200 bucks for years (much of the time when he was winning majors) and then suddenly at the drop
of a hat they are worth 5 and 6 times that. IT doesn't make sense to me, but if I owned some I would sell. If you can own a Ted Williams
or Willie Mays auto for less than 100 bucks, then certainly Woods autos are overpriced!

  • Yeah you're right it's crazy. It's also crazy how much his UD Promo cards are going for. The regular promo and the Heroes of Golf Promo. They're not that rare, the population of PSA 10s and 9s is really high. I don't get it, this isn't his first dominant run of his career like you said. I wrote an article about the promos on my blog:

I'd Let These Tiger Woods Cards Cool Off
  • You can find nice Tiger autographs for a couple hundred. Golf fans don't collect cards much so it is extremely doubtful such a huge premium will remain for the hard to find cards

Anopther valid point. 1 out of every 30 autograph seekers at golf tournaments are getting 91 Proset/81 Donruss/ modern UD cards signed. Pretty much every one else sticks to flags/balls/programs

yup, that guy didn't have his thinking cap on when he listed that for a grand - that's for sure

  • Every year, certified Tiger Autos will decline in value until the market decides what the value is. The only example that can be used are MJ autographs. Late nineties certified autos ran $1000+ per card. A 2008 auto you can get easily for $400. The same thing will happen with Tiger autos. As far as the value for his 2001 SP Authentic AU/900, the sky is the limit for that one and the AU/100. It's considered his true rookie card and his only certified rookie auto. Case values doubled because of that, but most have realized the cost versus chance to pull one are a very bad investment. My point is the 2001 SP Authentic AU/900 stands alone in comparison to overall autograph values.

    Same buyer for both cards!

I wonder if this one would also be a steal?

Or was this one an even better deal?

Big spread between highs and lows!?!?
