A 1923 Lincoln Cent, Wow was it Minted Yesterday...

My first reaction when seeing this coin picture was you must be kidding me!!!! 85 year old cents are simply not found in this state of preservation. But, considering who the owner is I should not have been surprised. Talk about stopping traffic in the middle of 5th & Broadway...woohoo!

What do you think that it grades and who owns this coin (it is not I):

Great coin, strike color and all.....but I can't go higher than 65 with that head scratch....oh so unfortunate, I certainly hope it was not a staple that caused it

edit: unless it's a die crack of course

I would surmise that the scratch is on the holder. 65 is obscenely low for this one....

Well then, it can't be less than a 67 if the 65 guess was "way to low"

I agree, that is a 67RD all day long. that has to be a Blay coin, only Stewart owns that quality.

If that is a holder scratch, I see a 67...68 possible, the coin is that nice. If that is a coin scratch, I stick to my guns

What is the deal? Excellent coin even if it has NO color. If for sale then make that clear otherwise it's a cute coin but we need to move on.

Its a 68RD. No way it is just a 66 and Stewart Blay must own it.

If you think that's stunning, you should check out his 1919.

That looks like one of Shylock's photos and is most likey owned by LMS.

With subtle yet beautiful toning near the rims, this coin was clearly not minted yesterday. image

Yep, I do believe that it is Shylock's photo of LMS's coin. I've also seen the picture of the 1919 in 69RD and that too is about as good as it gets. I'd love to know the provenance behind these examples...the story behind the acquistions. Maybe there will be a book someday.

I can't wait to Blay's Lincoln collection at the summer ANA.

Here are some more Shylock photos of incredible high-grade Lincoln's...Lincoln Cents

One look at the coin. I didn't read the thread, so my apologies if already revealed.
    It's a 68RD and it's Stewart's coin.
