Toner 1875 Seated Liberty Dime.

SkyManSkyMan Posts: 9,493 ✭✭✭✭✭
Here's a raw coin I recently bought at Santa Clara. I don't think it will slab due to the scratch (and even if it did slab I'd call it a high end AU), but before I purchased the coin the dealer and I reached an agreement on a buy back if that occurs. As you know, I'm not a big fan of small coins, but this one was just a total WOWSER!, so I took a shot at it. Even if it BB's I'm not sure I'd return it. The images are by Bob Campbell, and I think he did an excellent job.

Very nice dime, on the cusps of being uncirculated. I don't think that the scratch would preclude it from grading at PCGS.

    Congratulations!

That scratch will get it a 53 if they don't bag it for the toning (hey, don't shoot, I'm not saying that's what *I* think, but these things happen).

What happened to the first "S" in states? Is the toning covering the top of the letter, or is there some metal missing?

I suspect there is either some polish issues or strike through going on specifically with the S as the comparable reverse side appears to be alright, although there are some issues with strike on this coin, note the I and the M in DIME on the reverse.

EDITED TO ADD: JZ, that's Bob Campbell in CA.

The S is partially covered up by the toning.

I recently sent this in to PCGS and was pleasantly surprised to find out this evening that it graded MS 62.

I recently sent this in to PCGS and was pleasantly surprised to find out this evening that it graded MS 62.

Before I read the above last post, I already made up my mind that the coin looked like an AU50 (possibly AT).

I guess I was wrong and obviously, by the other posts, I'm in the minority.

But I am surprised it got an ms62.

Sorry Skyman, just my silly opinion.

Monster toning but from the pics she sure looks like an AU-55 at best.

This is the tricky part with great AU sliders. Personally I love this coin. Great color and just a cool overall look. Would I grade it a 62? Not sure, but Im not a pro grader. I would call it high end(with a big nudge on the high end part) AU, to a low MS. Is the grade out of whack? NIMOP.

    Great coin man!

    Congrats.

That's the thing about photos of super small coins....everyone wants to find issues or notices things that are really blown up way out of proportion.
I don't do the series...won't comment if I thought it was BB, AU, or MS, but I do like the color on the periphery.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
