I think there are only 6 or 7 people here that can grade a PCGS 70.

<< <i>Both those 70's blow. Spots and scuffs....even if it's on the slab. They don't look like 70s to me.
I'm just jealous I don't have any.
Joke me not. These are the TOP POP. When someone mentions modern eagles these are the coins that represent the entire series. No finer and none even close. I wish I had graded them myself but the credit goes to my friend Warren of Warren Wings that made these great coins, and most of the first $50 70s and passed them to me. These aren't some crusted up POS ms66 buffalo nickel, these are the the keys to a 22 year series.
Grandam, I call BS on that submission. Publish the submission # and post it. I can put together a list with a few of my 600+ 70s.
Where did Grandam say this was one submission?

Okay then. Do you want to see my list? Since I have the most PCGS grade 70 coins in existance I think I can manage. Oh, I would LOVE for one of you to challange that claim.

Allow me to be the first one to admit I have no clue. Post a raw MS70, that would be really impressive!

Are you saying that you are, or are not, one of the 6 or 7 people?
Modern bullion at that?
Im not trying to knock anyone for collecting want they love, just that a 69 is pretty darn close to a 70 so (No finer and none even close) is not really an accurate statement is it?
I am a firm believer in collect what you like and like what you collect.
Also looking for VF-EF Seated halves.
Sell me your old auction catalogs...

Then let me be the first to tell you congrats. I was a little worried as if that was one submission I was gonna call it quits. My best was 5 of 6 70 but I've also submitted nearly 200 submissions. You are a legend so I hope I wasn't too harse here. You just scared the bejesus out of me.
You should put these slabs back into the original slabs that they came from to protect them for future generations.
I've even heard of people thinking about damaging the surface of their entire slab to try and hide a few scratches and avoid a slab that was slabbed as a cleaned slab.
And those little metal round things are really distracting and hide the condition of the reverse of the slab. Awful.

<< <i>Here are two that made the 70 grade. After looking at my PR69 Gold Buffalo, the PR70 Gold Buffalo looks to have a slightly better strike around the cheek and mouth. That is the only thing that I can see different on these two coins.

Any reason the fields of the buff are photoshop edited black?

No photoshop done here, it is the reflection of my Nikon 4500 which is black.
I see you narrowly avoided using "photoshop" as a verb. It is more properly used as an adverb.

Ahh, I can almost see that now.
It was just strange not to see any ripple in the fields and I have seen too many e-bay images where people paint the fields of proofs black to make them look more attractive.
So, can we have some pre-2003 grade MS70 bullion pics??? Too many proofs but show us your MS70s.
None? Not even one to post? Bet I can rssle up a ton or 1917s buff nickels before I see any posts here. I'll do 9K for that buff and consider that a gift!

No Pre-2003 MS pics. The oldest 70's I have are Proof. Some SBA's, a complete 1992 Proof set etc...

Because of the angle and exposure during photography. I try to duplicate that on every proof shot.
I would love to see a count of the pre-2002 bullion coin MS70 COINS. My guess is that other than silver, none of you even have a single coin. Not one. Not a single coin. Natta, zilch. Only 22 year old and this series makes 150K buffalos just a bunch of crap. 7 cents worth of nickel and a BS NGC grade. What a joke? Actually, what a f'ing joke. $12K, might want to take it while you can get it.
I'll never have a '70' bullion coin. I had a PCGS slabbed MS69 gold buffalo for a while but sold it as I don't 'get it' as far as slabbed bullion. But I still retain two gold buffalo proofs, as these original mint coins are very pretty in the original capsule. They will stay in that capsule.
Anyone want to buy ASE proofs? I'm selling a complete set on eBay. All unsubmitted. Maybe a 70 in there folks!!! This is another set of coins that I 'no longer get'. I think the spot on the 1998 helped with this decision.
Lord help me. I don't understand what goes on this board half of the time!!! But it looks like i've past 200 posts. Wonder when I should give away Photoshop 7?
<< <i>Dangerously off topic, but when I shoot proofs, I like to fill the mirror with sort of a half-n-half if I can. It takes practice, but it shows the mirrored field actually reflecting something as well as the deep contrast of the black. You can get alot of eye candy with a photo of a proof if you work at it.

Geez, now I know how I must have sounded while on the pain meds after surgery a few weeks ago. Loved the sympathy though.
I knew it would happen.
Registry sets: mind-blowing genius idea
You sure are a class act and one that most people would look up to !
I just guess I am not most people......
P.S.
I would bet there are 60 or 70 people here that would not waste their time teaching you 1/2 they know about numismatics.
Now go back to your checkbook collection of Modern Crap griv.
(a) he buys some NCLT from the mint, submits them for grading, and receives some PCGS 70s
(b) he buys some already-slabbed PCGS 70s
Is that the takeaway from this thread?
Not exactly rare as a grade, are they?
It is much better to be able to shoot 70 (for 18 holes).
If a picture wasn't going very well I'd put a puppy dog in it, always a mongrel, you know, never one of the full bred puppies. And then I'd put a bandage on its foot... I liked it when I did it, but now I'm sick of it.

Uhhhh - let me think. NO! Why don't you just cut to the chase and whip out the ruler already.
<< <i>Griv, they are BULLION!!! Even I have made some PCGS MS70 ASEs!!! How many NON BULLION, REAL COINS have you made in MS70/PR70DCAM? How about some Kennedys, Lincolns or even a SBA or two? >>
While their metal content is certainly made of bullion, being struck and monetized by the government as well as being used in commerce (in the case of the bullion issues not struck for collectors) means they are definetly real coins which should carry a premium as the finest known examples. Similar to the Proofs struck by the government on a limted basis since the Mint's inception.

Many people don't consider proofs to be "real coins" either
Were proofs struck in 1793?
What good is a ruler? This competition calls for a micrometer.
I'm with the 'what the big deal, its bullion' group. Yes, they have a legal denomination, but they are not minted to spend, but as a vehicle to make bullion available to the average person. MS70's and PR70's are not exceptionally rare compared to the equivalent grade with a circulating denomination, obviously. Grading bullion is gotta be the most insane thing ever. The reality is, that all those MS70's and PR70's are not really even conditional rarities... there are millions and millions of the things out there that folks have never thought about sending in to grade, and if they did, the populations would soar to the point that an MS70 would lose much of its perceived value.
The registry game and bullion are a bad combination for wasting money imo.
There was an interesting article in the numismatic news about comparing the armerican eagles bullion with the austrian thalers bullion, and how the buyers of the thaler trade coin seem to get the fact that the thing is just a chunk of silver, with no numismatic value beyond that, while american eagle collectors don't seem to grasp that, despite the fact both 'coins' exist purely to enable the purchase of, or trade in, silver.
I love AE's, I'd just never assume one was worth more than melt.
Oh yeah, and the 'I have more of these than anyone in the world' stuff seems a bit juvinile.
