How do you clean your siver finds?

So far I have found two silver coins and have left them the same way I found them. Should I clean them? What's the best way? Thanks

  • First off...if there is any possibility they are collectible, don't clean them. If you have something like this:

No big deal..it's a common date coin with very little collector value....on the other hand if it's like this:

Don't clean it....don't even rub it...be very careful...you could reduce a valuable coin tremendously by cleaning it...A gentle wash in soapy water with a very good rinse will be better....on a slick coin or common date coin, Arm and Hammer baking soda does a great job....

Agreed. Basically,if its not worth more than melt you can clean it.

Good advice... cleaning is relevant to the coin.... if modern clad.. no problem... silver, first check it against the Redbook. Colonial... consult experts. Cheers, RickO
  • Thank You guys!
Mine are regular dates so I'll use the Arm and Hammer baking soda image
