Then why the early "aggessive" bids on this piece? I wonder if the top 2 or 3 bidders think its an impaired proof?
I wouldn't pay $39 for it, either proof or mint set (the later often PL making it quite difficult sometimes to distinguish the 1904 proof from its mint set cousin; no business strikes were made in 1904 for circulation). This is most definitely a problem coin, having been cleaned or polished or both. Tell tale signs are hairlines on both faces and artificial-looking shine.
