Blue tourmaline ring.

I don't think I ever posted this picture before. At my age, nothing would surprise me though. This is a .925 sterling ring and the stone is a blue tourmaline. If you look real close at the top and bottom of the stone in the first picture, there is a hinge on the upper end and a clasp at the bottom. The second picture shows the clasp a little more clear. I found this about two years ago under a big cottonwood tree in a park. After I found it, I opened the clasp and there is a cavity under the stone. In the cavity, there was a small diamond. I was told by a jeweler it is worth about $60.00.

I have never seen one like that before. Must have been a pleasant surprise to find a diamond inside. I would've thought you'd find a little picture or something like that. It's a very attractive ring.

  • Nice find! Thanks for sharing the pics. Is the diamond loose, or attached somehow?
  • kokapelli1......The diamond is just setting loose in the cavity. The ring is in my safety deposit box in Colorado along with several other jewelry items. When I get back there, I will post additional pictures showing the cavity and diamond if you would want me to.

Go and look at my followup post on the golf picture I posted.
  • A real nice find!...I'll bet you WERE surprised at the diamond. image
  • That's a beautiful ring. I too would like to see the diamond image

That is one of the neatest things I have ever seen! I have to wonder why the diamond was placed in the cavity. I can also easily imagine the panic and sadness that accompanied the lose of such a treasure!

  • marym.....I always try for at least one month to see if I can find the rightful owner of any jewelry I find. Many people have flat out lied to me to try and get something for nothing that didn't belong to them in the first place.

We have a neighbor woman who won't even speak to me because, I "find stuff." Her favorite phrase is...."Oh those poor women who lost them."

I too realize there is sorrow when something like this is lost. I guess my attitude is: The item is no more, or no less, lost to the person who lost it simply because I found it. If I knew the true owner of this ring, she/he would get it back immediately including the diamond.

Strange attitude your neighbor woman has... of course one feels sympathy for a loss... however, NOT finding it would do no one any good at all.. finding it, either it can be returned, or it can bring pleasure to the finder. Cheers, RickO

I would hazard a guess about the neighbor with the attitude, and hope that I am wrong. My gut tells me either she has a few pieces of jewelry that didn't originally belong to her, or she herself may lost a precious piece.

At any rate, that's still a gorgeous piece of jewelry you found!

Very interesting find, please post pics of the cavity. I think it might be a poison ring.
