Carl Pavano vs. Mike Hampton

Hampton has become even more worthless than Pavano. Will either one of these guys ever pitch in the big leagues again?

who cost more in guaranteed money? I'm so glad the Red Sox didn't waste money on those two guys and instead wasted money on Matt Clement

I heard this was his first start since 05 but pulled his boobie while warming up.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

    Si senor.

You know you're snakebit when you're warming up for the first time in 3 years and you hurt something that you have never seriously hurt before!!
  • Hampton is not only far worse than Pavano, also, perhaps the worst in sports history. It is so bad, Barry Zito will likely end up as a better signing

  • I don't know about that Tom, I'd think I'd rather have a guy who DOESN'T pitch than have a 15 game LOSER EVERY YEAR.
I still think the Zito signing will go down as the worst EVER, he's DONE and he's got what, 6 or 7 years left at 19 mil per?
    What a waste.

the Zito signing might very well be the absolute worst free signing in history. EVERYONE knew Zito had nothing left BEFORE he signed the deal..I don't know what information the Giants were given, but they really blew it. He's probably the only pitching to suck worse after moving from the AL to the NL.

Zito, Hampton, Pavano are all pretty much the same. Just a HUGE waste of money, Im sooooooo glad the Sox didnt get involved with that trash.
  • Dont forget Kevin Browns insane contract, he made off with many millions.

You could probably find one big free agent bust for just about every team...although the money wasn't as large as it is nowadays I remember when the team I root for signed Wayne Garland to a huge contract and he won maybe 20 games for them the rest of his career...

collecting RAW Topps baseball cards 1952 Highs to 1972. looking for collector grade (somewhere between psa 4-7 condition). let me know what you have, I'll take it, I want to finish sets, I must have something you can use for trade.

looking for Topps 71-72 hi's-62-53-54-55-59, I have these sets started

  • Easily Pavano hes pitched like 3 games if hes lucky in 3 years and hes pulling in like 10 mill a year.
  • Someone please explain how $10 million for four years is more of a waste than $15 million for eight years?

The difference is when Garland was pitching contracts were still artificially below market value. The Kansas City Royals could sign higher priced free agents and make the World Series. Now a bad contract can destroy a franchise for a decade

After his last start it looks like Zito does have a chance to be even worse than Hampton. But it is still unlikely, last year he was 11-13 for the second worst hitting team in baseball. That is still far better than who ever would replace him if he were on the DL for three years like Hampton

Pavano is still a much better deal than Darren Dreifort and Chan Ho Park, especially after adjusting for inflation
