Got out for a brief time yesterday while the rain let up for my second outing of the year- if you can call it that- I hunted a little in my own front yard. And just to show you never know- first find was a dime, then a couple of zincolns, but I did dig one bottle cap, but found there was still a signal coming from the hole, and then a couple inches deeper in hole, found this:
Looks to have been some type of decorative pin, made of copper (perhaps was plated or enameled at one time?-since worn off?). You can see where the steel pin attached and hooked under on backside, but it must have completely rusted away- so it might have been down there a while. First interesting find for me this year, and my year to date total is now up to 16 cents!

Don't you realize what that IS?
(Just thought I'd get your adrenaline up. Heehee. Seriously, though, that does look old. And old is good, when talkin' dug stuff.)
I believe it's a badge from the Loyal Order of Gingerbread Men.
It was a rather obscure secret society that didn't last very long.
The leader got his head bitten off by a little girl from Connecticut.

Ah, you had me for a second- good thing I didn't post it until after April fools day. I am thinking it may have been something that had a ribbon attached it- they type of award pins/prize pins like they give out at county fairs or parades- I live right in the heart of town just off of main street, they used to have at least one parade a year I've been told.

You'll have to do better research than that!
Super nod to LordM, of course.
