Maybe it's the compression of the image, but the piece just looks off to me. If real, it appears to be a well-dipped proof that likely had some stubborn surface crud removed from it, especially on the reverse.

Not image compression, but the "looks off" part puts you on the right track.
It has a nice overall look, but recently both PCGS and NGC have been calling classic proofs with similar looks as having "altered surfaces". The appearance on the reverse and the "halo" effect around a few of the stars on the obverse are evidence of this.
My opinions come from recent personal experiences. I submit classic proof coins for grading quite often and I have realized that coins with a similar look have been getting rejected by both PCGS and NGC.

Kinda like the "California Proof" Morgans that surface every now and then. Whizzed overall to a deep mirror prooflike appearance, and then the devices are artificially frosted.
One of the many reasons why I like to stick to totally original MS type coins with full frosty cartwheels. Overall less options when it comes to screwing with the coin.

I would reserve judgment until I see a RussView™ photo.

Bingo! The areas that look like haze are actually just un-polished portions.

I think I'd like to have it. Wouldn't want to buy it, but still would like to have. That's what I think.

Too many positive BST transactions with too many members to list.
Man it still looks so sharp... It was my best guess and gut feel but I wouldn't have put money on it.
