Who will be attending this show April 16th-19th, and who would like to meet up for lunch on Saturday the 19th?
Edited to add: Maybe a big breakfast early on Saturday the 19th is a better idea. Anyone interested?

I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

Absolutely Julian. Will be a pleasure to meet you in person im sure. About a year ago, I wrote to you needing advice about whether or not I should buy a standard silver quarter pattern in copper. After discussing what had been in my collection at that time, you advised me to pass since the coin wouldnt quite "fit" with my other pieces. Not sure if you recall those emails, but I was impressed that a famous dealer such as yourself would take the time to help a relative "nobody" with free advice like that!

Update 04/09 - Did not win election (more likely than not it was rigged) and my employer had denied me the day off for the breakfast, so no can do for me.

Always like seeing the forum members in person.
Some of them even carry funny items like ruber chickens!!!

<< <i>I'll be there. It is nice to have a large show in one's own backyard. On the other hand, I have to pay for parking >>
Park at the blue line station on River Road for something like $3. The walk isn't much farther than if you park in the $11 (or is it $15 now) garage.

I've got to figure out where that's at. Even though I'm local, my boss and hiw wife are coming in and staying downtown. I grabbed a room downtown too and plan to take the blue line out each morning.
<< <i>I plan to be there on Saturday....not sure how fat my wallet will be though. I'm going to Vegas the following weekend. If only I was going to Vegas the week before I could spend all my winnings at the show! >>
Just play nickel slots in Vegas, and go large at the coin show. Seriously, whenever I get the itch to gamble, and go to the local casino boats, if I lose $500 or so I get depressed thinking about what a nice seated dime, or large cent I could have added to my collection instead.

That lesson was learned that the last time I had a rental car when I attended the Mid-America Show. Does the CTA allow overnight parking at their lots?

<< <i>I have been looking on mapquest to decide if I want to go. It appears I am about 5 hours away which is not to bad, but looks a little complicated. I need a GPS. Looks like next year it will be in my home town of Cincinnati so maybe I will just wait for next years show, but I will be sure to check with by local dealer to see if he brings back anything exciting for me this year. >>
If coming from the southeast, DO NOT attempt to take I-65 to I-80/94 or I-90. It is closed. You'll need to take either US 231 or US 30 west and hook up with IL 394, then go north. Consult a map for specifics. Also, I think there's a lot of construction I-294 between I-80 and O'Hare, and the best way to go may be through the city on I-94 and I-90.

parts of 65 are closed, however, the construction on 294 between ohare and 80 is not that bad....only moderate increases in travel times during rush hours only.
<< <i>I'll be there all day friday and possibly a little on saturday. Anyone else going to the LSCC meeting? If so be sure to say hi, i'll be the really happy one because i'm missing a day of school! >>
And I'll be missing a day of work. Sounds like a win-win to me
Also, have arranged a transaction for a pretty important coin for my collection that should be completed at the show.

<< <i>Does the dealer crowd thin out on Saturday ? >>
Yes and no. Dealers are required to stay until the end on Saturday however all of the largest dealers pack up their coins and leave 1 case with 1 coin to say that they are there. Whether I agree with it or not is irrelevant. The biggest issue is that Saturday is the first Passover Seder meaning that any practicing Jews need to get home to clean and cook (note the good old boys of the CSNS board apparently don't know that there are Jewish Coin Dealers). So anyhow visit Harlan J. Berk's table where I am not sure we will be there. If you have problems with the lack of general attendance Saturday, complain to the board so they can ignore you too.
