Ya never know

Yesterday I made a trip to the local gas station to buy some lollipops-I'm trying for the upteen-thousandth time to quit smoking-when I noticed the woman in front of me trying to count out the price of a pack of cigarettes. The change was 10 mercury dimes, 1 1996 silver eagle, 4 pre '64 washington quarters, 2 bicent quarters and 1 1878 seated liberty quarter! I would have been happy to pay her the full price of the silver value but I only had a ten spot....and I HAD to have those 3 lollipops-so I said (almost yelled) "I'll give you twice face value for your change!". She eagerly said "OK". Then I asked the guy (from India, I think) working the register if I could have change for the ten so I could do the deed. He looked irritated and said he didn't have much change. I said; "Look, she's gonna be giving it back to you and I'm still making a purchase so..." Fortunately, he relented. I actually gave her $8.00 and I was tickled to do that. All in all, everyone came out ahead. She got more than she would have, I got more than I expected when I went in and the clerk made a sale! You just never know!

Wow... you should have told her, "I'll give you three times face value for as much as you can 'borrow' from the place you 'borrowed' this 'pocket change' from! Keep it comin'!"

    I knew it would happen.
  • Probably robbing her husbands coin collection to support her nicotine habit.
    Good luck on quitting.

Welcome Mutt. That's a nice coin story. I hope you manage to quit. I support your willingness.
    My advice :

BREATHE and walk a lot !
  • The fact that you wouldn't just instantly give her the $10 flat out for all that silver makes me wonder what kind of lolly pop is that hard to go without!

Cool story, probably too bad for someone's coin collection though. I used Nicorette for about a month starting on the first day of this year, and also managed to kick the habit. The gum seemed expensive at first, but me and the wife did it on 2 boxes of 100, one box of the 4MG and one box of the 2 MG, and actually had a little left over. Good luck, and enjoy the forum! Rob

Clearly the coins were likely acquired by nefarious means, but why let that fact get in the way of anotherwise good story. image
  • Folks:
I have been trying to upload pics of my gas station find but I'm afraid it looks like I might need to use some of it to buy another camera. If my brother comes by later he said he would bring his so maybe sometime today I'll be able to post pics.
