Coin Show Report

Folks, I haven’t done a coin show report in years so I thought it was about time I shared one. I won’t write five paragraphs on what time the alarm clock went off, the travel to and from and etc. Although parking was free, and so was admission. A great start to a great day.
First entering the show it was indeed packed. But, if someone bumped into you they said excuse me. The Dealers for the most part looked well rested, clean shaven, and clean clothes on. Same for the collectors, there was a certain “Freshness” in the air. As I walked up to one dealers table, he had a few other Dealers there with their sheets and briefcases covering his table. He told them to move their stuff as I was trying to look in his case. He then smiled and asked if he could help me.
I did notice the typical little ol’ lady looking to sell what looked to be her late husbands small collection. Dealer asked what she wanted and she had no idea but mentioned something like a $100.00. He mentioned that if he could take the coins over to a friend of his he could get her much more. Well, reluctantly she let him and he came back and handed her 1K! She wanted to give him something for his troubles so he said just give me 100.00 10% as that’s what their usual profit is.
I went to sell a coin to a Dealer and mentioned that I thought it was a superb coin and needed Grey-sheet ask. He mentioned he had his computer hooked up and could probably do better. Not only that but he found the highest closing price and asked if he paid 10% below that if it was OK. Done deal, it sure is great with all this technology at their fingertips.
Anyway, much more but too much to type. Thanks for letting me share this and bless you all!!!
Gotta run, having dinner with a couple Dealer friends and it’s on them. Don’t even need a shower. What a great way to spend a day.

<< <i>Not to ask a dumb question, but what show are we talking about? >>
The one that's on Mars. There's no way this happened.
<< <i>Who believes that dealer handed the little old lady ALL he received for her coins. >>
You're just trying to ruin my day. As my Wife used to tell me, "I'm not going to let you ruin my day."
And folks, all those CAC images of coins we've seen from different web-sites that appeared to be severely boinked with, cleaned retoned etc? Well, I seen a few and I can tell you uncle daddy was correct...... they were just bad images from all these sources and we didn't read them correctly. They do have an inspiration to reward nice original and not otherwise messed with coins, and these coins were proof of this. Sorry no "Newps" man I still hate that word if it is a word. It's all about the friendships I build along the way. Didn't feel a need to buy anything.
And then....... I woke up.

So, then... ...the alarm finally went off and the sweet dreams fade.

What time did you wake up?

What - no lots of fresh original type and key date coins at 20 back of Bid? Guess the alarm rang too early while you were dreaming....
And, after you left, I was about to ask RYK a question about his new purchase, when HRH and John Albanese burst into the room. At first, we were a little peeved that the noisy entrance distracted Laura from her foot-massage duties, but our anger quickly subsided. John, with his face still flushed from his run up the stairs, reached into his pocket and pulled out THE coin. He and HRH had spent countless months -- nay, years -- searching for this coin on my behalf. With a slight bows of the head, they handed me the coin and sheepishly looked into my eyes for some sign of approval. I cooly said that I'd have to post pictures of the coin on the forum before I could make any commitment.
Next . . . .
and they were both '83-P gems. When questioned it turned out he had
half a bag left of these that he had been unloading for months. It was pro-
bably a little more than half a bag and he was so eager to get rid of them
and so busy that he didn't want to count them. He insisted I take them
for only $500.
A quick perusal showed that it was just lousy with gems and most of the
rest were very choice.
The 50c purchace was a gem '69 quarter.
This sortta stuff happens even in mid day for me sometimes though.
