PCGS Insert...Time for a new color?

If you said "Yes", what color would you like to see for the new insert?
Just wondering...

There should be some counterfeit deterrent such as watermark, security strip or foil to prevent anymore counterfeiting from occurring; so yes, a change across the TPG system is in order...
This protects us, the consumer and that should be their priority...

Good idea.

Yes.

I agree!!
And yes that bar code needs to go it serves very little if any purpose.
The top TPGS almost certainly have something along these lines to allow them to be able to quickly distinguish even the best counterfeits from the legit ones. The problem is if they disclose "everything" to look for, the counterfeiters will also know. Hence, many manufacturers include a number of anti-counterfeit items in their products, but keep the exact nature of some of the items a secret.

How about clear with black type, that way you can make it any color you want with unlimited background possibilities.....

That was going to be my suggestion as well.

Well, maybe. But c'mon, consider this: White, Light Grey, Blue, Green, and of course -- for $5 extra -- Canary Yellow.
Perhaps proofs and business strike coins could automatically get different colors.
Hell, PCGS already opened the door for these proposals with First Strike, Heroes, Satin Finish, etc. labels. I'll be surprised if they don't continue going down this road.
1. Thwart counterfeiting while still allowing authenticity to be established. Anything entirely visual or disclosed can and will be duplicated- years ago, it was thought that a hologram would be difficult to reproduce, but we now know that is no longer the case. There are plenty of measures that can be added to establish authenticity in-hand- I've been thinking about embossing a small 4-8 digit code into the plastic on the side of each slab. The number would be required along with the cert number for verification. This would end the stealing of cert #'s from photos for fake labels. This may work in making the numbers on the label more secure, but what about establishing authenticity of the slab from photos in an online auction? Anything visual will show up in the photo and could be duplicated...I think photographing every coin before it goes into the holder and including it as part of cert verification is a step in the right direction, but the counterfeiters could simply make the fake coin look like the one in the picture.
2. Thwart alterations to the coin after it's been slabbed, such as 'gassing'. I suggested this in other threads: invent a label that will react if chemicals are introduced into the slab and change color. Even putting a small square of foil made from the same metal the coin is made from somewhere on the label would accomplish this. It would react to the introduced chamicals the same way the coin does.
3. Be infomative but not detract from the overall presentation of the coin. There are some ugly labels and slabs out there. Why not include a beautiful label on a beautiful holder holding a beautiful coin?

CU stamp grader PSE just uses photos and certificates for all their expertised stamps; a lot of stamp dealers do not like slabs at all. I'm not aware of any fraud problems on the stamp front, so this leads me to believe that archived photographs could be a very powerful tool. (I suppose it's worth noting that coins are much more difficult to photograph in a way that shows all identifying features.)
I'm not sure how a fraudster could make their coin look like the authenticated photographs of the legitimate coins. Are we talking only about ebay auction images?
BTW I love the idea of a tamper-evident label, though I wonder if slabs themselves already show enough signs of tampering.

Kind of like this
