Original mint luster on a VF30 DBH? You bet!

Check out the luster still present on this DBH in a video I made for youtube. How often do you guys see luster on a VF30 coin?

Your video is cool! The MS63 Seated half looks very frosty. It's also rather interesting to hear your voice because you sound to me like you are either from Canada or the upper mid-west.image

I think with your coin, it's a matter of a higher graded coin that was penalized for a weak strike.

Giving the appearance of a worn coin with luster.

Looks like a nice coin. You might want to consider resubmitting it someday.

I completely agree that it was penalized for the strike. However, I am quite happy with it at VF30, and its hard for me to see it going any higher. Even with the strong eye appeal from the rim toning.

Thanks Julio. Also, look at the CBH in that video. At first I thought it looked to be whizzed. Whats it look like to you guys?
  • I just went through 3 of your videos. You should be commended for spending the time to further the hobby like that. I commend you anyhow. Great stuff!

Thanks Heff. I had alot of fun making them. The collection of videos features some of the coins from my collection that can best display the vast choices one has with collecting U.S. coins. It was not meant to be informative to anyone in these forums, as 99% of you guys would run circles around me numismatically, but rather aimed at novices, or just people who are considering starting a collection. I plan to make a few more including one on dollars, and one on grading, and maybe one on storage of coins, and certain common "problems" with some coins such as cleanings and the AT/NT debate. Thanks for your kind words.
