Are you a seasonal collector?

sparky64sparky64 Posts: 7,065 ✭✭✭✭✭
I'll admit that winter has traditionally been coin season for me.
As spring picks up and days get longer collecting went into hibernation. image
I'm thinking (hoping) that this forum may bridge the gap somewhat.
I'm sure that people who do this for a living can't slow down too much.
How about you?

I try to keep an even keel. I purchase about $500 a month, average, off ebay. Then I buy
any collection I can as I find them. Winter is best for me for collections, but this winter was
actually slow for that aspect of the hobby.

Runs pretty much the same all year...but coin shows seem to disappear in the summer. Cheers, RickO

I have been collecting seasons for a long time.

So far, I have 50 falls, 50 winters, I'm working on my 50th spring and I have 49 summers under my belt.

    Yeah, I am seasonal.

When I have discretionary money to spend, that is my buying season.

When I have no discretionary money, that is my non buying season.

In many cases my seasons change daily.

    I knew it would happen.
I haven't bought a coin in a couple months. Spending less time here too.
Can't force it in the summer.
Sure to be back strong when the cool wind blows.

My buying season is usually the Winter but my coin selling season is the Summer.

Possibly not good but I usually make more on my coins in the Summer than in the Winter.

I'll bet that you get that 50th summer before you get your 51st fall. image

I find myself looking for more things in the spring and summer.

I am retired. The time of the year makes little difference to me, so I must say that I am not a seasonal collector in any way.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

Some times it can be difficult to be out looking for coins in the summer, when you spend alot of time looking for little white golf balls instead.....

Can you get a Dansco for those ??

Available funds is all that slows me down, well the wife kinda sorta slows me down too, but that ain't seasonal. She slows me down
    year round.

No, but it does make you a "seasoned collector"! imageimageimage

Sort of now that you mention it --- due to my line of work I do most of my buying and collecting in the summer when I'm off. When I'm working it's 6 days a week 12 hour's a day so I just don't have the time to do any good coin hunting. What I have seen is I do more sales in the winter - spring. That's hard on me trying to find time to ship out coin's but I manage.
