Just between you, me, and the lamp post, if I wanted to buy a modern commem, where would I go?

LongacreLongacre Posts: 16,717 ✭✭✭
This question is completely hypothetical. If you were in the market for a select few modern commemoratives whose designs you admire, where would you buy them? Let's also assume. hypothetically speaking, that I was not interested in pop top coins, but ones in the lowly grade of MS67 or MS68 (or Proof 67 or Proof 68). Thoughts?

The Mint does not slab their commems. Your best option is eBay..

  • Geeez, Modern Commems? They are very affordable in 69, MS or PR, accept no 67s! Just lay out your request on the B/S/T forum. If I see your post I'll check my inventory and if I have one I'll give you such a deal. image

If you don't mind doing some searching, dealers at local shows sometimes have modern commems - frequently in original packaging rather than slabs, though.

You might check dealer's boxes of "bargain slabs" for slabbed examples, too.

Local B&M or local show would likely be the best venue since you could look at the coin in-hand first, there would likely be a deep selection, there would be no shipping charge, which could be a relatively high percentage of a smaller purchase, and you could see if the coin in-hand matches your expectations generated from images.

Agreed, my local B&M has busboy tubs of moderns, they are willing to pratically give away. All in mint holders, but for the price and the ability to search through them its a good deal.
