Perk - gotta agree with you. That was one of the first sets of cards I remember collecting 50 years ago. My favorites then were the egg frying on the surface of Mercury, the diagram of a space ship (because I liked the magenta color) and Dog in Sputnik II cause I like Laika.

  • I love the look of those 50's and 60's nonsports cards - just a cool "vibe". Thanks for sharing image .

  • Perk,
Really nice cards to us Non Sports guys. Someday my hope would be to put together the War News or one of the other 1930's -1940's War sets, but out of my league, money wise at least for now. The 57-58 Space/Target Moon cards have always been one of my favorites.

Thanks Neil! I hope to pick up a few more different Non Sport cards here and there. They are definately a nice change of pace from sportscards, I hope to find a few low grade Horrors of War cards next.
  • Nice cards Perkdog , i'm also looking to pick up as many Horrors of War cards as my budget can stretch to , it won't be many if i don't give up trying to upgrade the CWN set !!!
I'll have to put the CWN down and move on to pastures new .

Thanks for the scans , appreciated .

War Pictures also looks good , decisions decisions....it's a hard old game , card collecting .

  • My first G-Men cards .

I had my HOW wow today . The reprint set arrived plus my first PSA graded card from this jaw dropping set .
It's by far the best NS set out there . Super colors & attention to detail , informative backs . This set has it all .
I thought CWN was great but this set takes the biscuit .

Ahhh Perk...you are dabbling in the 52 Presidents set! I bought a decent lot of the 56's about 2 years ago and got a bunch of 8's...sold them all for very high prices. They have come down a lot since then. I also had a few 7s that I wish I had kept but oh well. I still have a handful sharp ones that I kept. I will eventually get working on them again to build a nice raw set. I probably have 15 still. I also bought a lot of the smaller bowmans too but not quite as nice. They are the same cards. The first few from that set go for some decent money.

    Hello to All ,

Hi Steve , some very nice cards there , well done on the grades .

Lets hope the meteor doesn't strike eh ...well not anywhere nice .

  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 31,899 ✭✭✭✭✭
Steve, I love those Target Moon cards! Very nice!

Barry- I was very suprised when I found out that the 56 President set was identical to the 52 set, like I said I love the artwork and the history that goes with it-I might try to pick up a few more of the 52 Bowmans, they seem less popular than the 56 Topps version for some reason, at least on the set registry anyways.

Thanks for the scans everyone, I really like this thread, maybe we can turn it into the Non-Sport Mail Call thread like Stone did in the memoribilia forum!
  • Hello to All ,

Not a card but non-sports related . Issued in 1969 by A&BC gum in the UK .

I agree Paul, the 52's seem less popular. Are you going to do the set graded? Im just going raw. I just like looking at them. I agree that the artwork and the reading the backs are great!

WOW Mark- those are some SWEET looking Civil War cards! Very nice job on the grades!

Barry- for now I will get a few of the 52's here and there but no plans on doing the set just yet- If I get enough I might try to just do the entire set in 7 grade- we will see, I have a hard time going after anything other than Vintage football right now other than a few Non-Sport as you guys know.

Cheers Paul . It was a nice parcel from PSA .

    Hello to All ,

    Cheers Neil ,

Perk , Neil is right .
You'll get hooked better than a fish on a line . (which is great , we all need new experiences in life)
I only popped in for a cuppa tea (like us Brits do) & look whats happened to me . We'll i popped in because i grew a little stale
with UK cigarette card issues (you can only look at butterflies & flowers for so long ) image and needed some ' excitement ' in my cards .
I found it in Civil War News & Horrors & G-Men & all the other gum issues i can't afford image

See you on the Dark Side Paul .

  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 31,899 ✭✭✭✭✭
Anything new you guys want to show? I just picked up a sweet Civil War News card, the scan from the auction was very bad so I will wait until I have it in hand to post it.

    Hey Perk,
I'm going to set the Hook, I am going to go to my Safety Deposit Box on Fri. and bring back Two (2) Cards from Two Different Sets. And this is a "Contest" as well. Anybody who guess's One will win a nice Delivered Non Sport PSA Card, Guess both and you will get the first prize and a second of my choice.
So Perk, the two cards will be coming form Two Non Sports Sets, one from the 1930's and the other the 1960's. My sets don't count.

    Good Morning,
Hey Mark, is that the Horrors of War that is the Top Dog card? Even in PSA 1 it must have cost more than a couple of bucks.

Mark! That is a very cool HOW card! So far my favorite that you have posted, I did get my civil war news card but havnt a chance to scan it just yet. All my cards are mailed to my Parents house, I live with my girlfriend in an area where I dont want packages left in between the two front doors. I will not forget to scan it though!
  • image

    Hello to All ,

Cheers Perk , i agree with you , ^^^^ it's a nice card with lots of action & movement . Reminds me a lot of one of the first cards you posted , i think it was from War news Pictures ..just checked , it was WNP card #80

I've been away for a few days and this nice surprise popped through my door this a.m. . I'd forgotten that it was on it's way , hope the wife didn't spot it in the mail box !!
Looking forward to seeing the CWN or any other non-sports pick ups .
This is my last one for the Merry Month of May .

    image

  • I have a bunch I just listed on ebay... non graded though. Cards are not creased and have tight corners, but the wahoo that had the collection taped the top edges. Not all cards are shown in the listing, but here's a link:

    Link

They're pretty neat cards. I like the comic book looking ones better than the old photo looking ones.

    Carla

ETA: Link doesn't work so just search for Freedom's War and you'll see my lot (ronnieb)

    Hello to All ,
