You know how you take snipers out? With artillary; bid BIG and bid OFTEN! Do that, and I can almost gaurantee you will never be sniped again (unless someone else that reads this response) image

As long as he bid more than you were willing to, he just outspent you, nothing wrong with that.

If you cannot bid with the big dogs... don't bother. You must be prepared to either bid high or snipe. Cheers, RickO

Sometimes, you need to do both. The last auction I won, I sniped $100 more than I was thinking I'd need, just to be safe. I won by 4 bucks.

If you make penny ante bids, you get beat.
If you were willing to bid more, you should have bid more.

  • it doesnt matter if you had the high bid since the listing started, in the end, he who is willing to pay the most, wins the coin. all bidders do is drive up the price. lay low and load a big snipe.
  • Yep, I usually snipe in the last 30 seconds or so on TT but I was trying to find where the buyback was at earlier in the auction and it just happened to be low. The whole point is that sitting on a bid until the end is not a good position to be in.

Zackly so. NEVER show your interest in an item by placing an early bid.

I've done that myself a few times. If I REALLY want the coin though, I'll snipe myself.

Jcarney is right... I can beat the snipe programs.... however, you must be there, and tuned in... the last few seconds are critical... and high speed connection is mandatory. Cheers, RickO

I have a pretty good wireless line at home, and can usually sinpe within 2 seconds of the auction ending.

Actually Ricko, that's not quite what I meant.

I DO manually snipe on Teletrade, but if I really want a coin and I'm the high bidder and the price is ridiculously low, I will put in a snipe bid against myself to ensure that I win the coin.

I agree though, I can beat the snipe programs easily. If I have a 2 second snipe on Ebay, I'm disappointed. image

Of course this presumes that there aren't a bunch of snipers all laying low at the same time. In which case, the final cost of the coin is still the same as what it would have been if you bid earlier.

Actually, occasionally two snipers load what is called a "nuclear snipe" assuming they will outbid the underbidder by one bid increment no matter what it is. So they bid $1000 on a $500 coin assuming at the worst they'll pay $550. But two guys do it and one ends up paying $1000. --Jerry

How do you know when you're beating a snipe program? Maybe the other bidder manually sniped too, but just not high enough.

Does paying more than what you can get it for make you smart? This statement makes no sense.

Here is the same coin on ebay with BIN that is less than what the next bid would have been.
