Happy Easter!
I just added an uncut 3 card panel to my collection, pictured below with it's brothers. For those who haven't seen my previous dozen posts regarding this card, the Gretzky photo was changed before Topps went to production, making the proof cards very unique. In fact, there were about a dozen photo changes in the 1980-81 set. The Guy LaFleur All Star card (upper right) is also a photo varient.

What exactly is the Topps Vault ?
Is it an individual selling items - or is it Topps (company) selling off items...
Can someone explain this to me?...thanks

<< <i>Love the Gretzkys! I wish the Topps Vault would release some more of their inventory (assuming there's a lot more to release). I was able to pick up some pretty cool '84 Butlers - all are blank backs. I missed out by minutes the full cyan and full magentas. I'm hoping that the guy who bought them will someday put them out on the market so I can have a more complete set.

I love the Gretzkys!
That is some collection you got there too
Have you tried to contact the buyer of the other 2?

<< <i>Gio - yes, I did. It was a couple years ago when they came up. I tried to contact the guy thru eBay when they first closed, but he never wrote back. I didn't want to pester the guy - maybe I should have. >>
I would have made him an offer he couldn't refuse!
No but really, I would have made him a rediculous offer just to get the last 2, were they the last 2??? Still a very cool set

I've been buying from the Toppsvault since 2004 and have probably picked up around 150 to 200 lots over that time. I've only been disappointed once - they overlooked a crease and made good on it.
I recommend it to anyone looking for proofs, pre-production items, original art - to include pen & ink items - from original comic art to blank back proofs.
The items usually go at fair prices - except when a HOF'er is involved - Ryan items sell at a premium.
I guarantee there was competition for the Gretzky proof.
If ya like full or half uncut sheets? They come up from time to time. A favorite I picked up was a half sheet with the Ryno RC.

Never even heard of anything like that , I wonder how many different types of these variants there are and how many of each , or are they the only ones ?
TNP, I hope you get those Butlers too , that would be great , but even what you have there is cool too .
TNT - There were two other copies of this particular Gretzky card that Topps Vault has auctioned off on eBay. One was a finished version of the card (all colors) with the team name "OILERS" running horizontal along the hockey stick blade. This one sold for $980. The other was a series of four acatate overlays which formed a final version of the card. This one sold for $736. My guess is that, for this particular issue, Topps ran one sheet of each individual color (8 different colors = 8 different sheets) , two finished sheets and one acetate sheet. Just a guess.
TNP - Your Butler set is amazing! I tried to get all of the All Star subset cards (12 players) in yellow/green & finished versions, but missed out on four players (Tony Esposito, Mark Howe, Larry Robinson & Charlie Simmer). For some reason the yellow/green & finished version were the only colors offered.
Stone - I knew you were a big fan of the original artwork, but I didn't realize that you had so much from the vault. Those cardback drawings that you've posted in the past are very cool.

<< <i>Are there any screw-down type holders for a 3 card panel? I need something for the Gretzky panel on my original post above. I've searched Ultra Pro & Pro Mold's websites but couldn't find anything. HELP! >>
It seems like they used to make a screw down for 8x10s. I know it's a little big but I think the panel would display well in one. Also, you might check a frame shop to see if they could make something custom made for it.

No other regular card issue ever used the scratch-off design (rub-offs on backs - yes). So it was quite a departure from anything in 30 years.
The O-Pee-Chee did not choose to use the scratch-off.
Tough to find in mint condition. A wonderful look at the uncut panels !
Nice collection. Thanks for sharing.
cheers
