Got Me A Chain Cent 215 Years Old A While Back.... And It Looks Like It Slab Posted

“Liberty herself appears to be in a fright” what is believed to be the public’s negative reaction, to the obverse design of the first chain cent struck by the US Mint for circulation. And only produced for a very short time. They also didn’t care for the chain on the reverse either, which was to represent the 15 states at the time. President George Washington was very involved in all what was going on with the chain cent.
I think this coin has a lot of history to it, and for what it is I decided to get my poor man version of it. A decent example IMO, and not all hacked up and all the problems these usually have especially in this low condition. This is the S-1 variety with AMERI. on the reverse. Believed to be the first variety made. Anyway, thought it might be worth posting. In person with a tilt you can see the date, In the image if you look close there is a ghost of the date. Feel free to toss a grade opinion, and post yours as well.

Horse power...

Screw press, notice the kid in the center running it before child labor laws.

Then I am very sorry. It is very hard when we we have to say goodbye to our buddies...
The chain cent is one of those coins that I have thought about since I was a kid and bought my first Red Book.
I used to dream about finding one of these someday and have come to realize that the only way I will ever own one (and I will) is by due diligence and a healthy bank account.
Congrats on a real piece of our history.
