What's your favorite sandwich? Excluding a burger.

A NY style deli is opening up down the block from me.

I went to a "tasting" last nite - it has great promise!!!!!

I think a corned beef or pastrami on NY rye with mustard - and sometimes cole slaw is kick butt!!!!

This will be the only Kosher style deli in all of San Antonio which is the 7th biggest in the country - it's like we're now in the big-time!!!

I know you're trying to be healthy - me too.

I'll probably eat too much colesterol with this place at first - but then I'll probably settle in for the healthier eats on Fri nites.

"...a corned beef or pastrami on NY rye with mustard ..."

    //////////////////////////////////////////

Both are VERY high on my list.

BUT, my first simple choice is:

Ham and Swiss on Rye. Mustard. NO MAYO!!!
Chips and a Dill. Cherry Cola.

Turkey club with well done bacon, shredded lettuce, tomato and mayo is tough to beat...also enjoy Boar's Head ham and Finlandia swiss with Bauer's mustard (German mustard made with horseradish, the best mustard I've ever had, their factory is in Ridgewood, Queens, where I grew up).

heh, I had to drop and do 50 just for thinking about a cheesesteak.

Another vote for the Rueben... slaw or kraut... don't much care as it's darn tasty either way. Does a cheesesteak really count as a sammy to traditionalists anyhow? They do make a mean one in Philly either way, that's for sure. Man, I am glad I ate before checking this thread or I would have to make a deli run right about now.

I think I got sick once from a roast beef sandwich at subway because they leave the mayo out at room temperature. Now when I get one I bring it home and use my own fridge cold mayo.
  • stownstown Posts: 11,321 ✭✭✭
There's nothing like a good pastrami sandwich.

Not that dry crud; the stuff that's so juicy, you don't even need mustard.

    Yum-o.

  • I used to have a New York Style Deli located in Palm Desert California about 5 years ago. Some of my favorite sandwiches are:

Hot brisket with Swiss Cheese and Russian dressing on a Kaiser roll.

Hot Pastrami with thinly sliced sweet gerken pickles, swiss on double baked rye.

And of course the classic Hot Corned Beef or Pastrami with cole slaw on double baked rye..

Man this is making me hungry going to hit a good deli first thing tomorrow. Have it good now because my 7 year old had some corn beef and cabbage for Saint Patty's day and loved it and wants more.

Pit Beef. Lots of BBQ sauce. None of that horseradish crap. Also, shrimp salad is very underrated and a good crabcake sandwich always makes me happy.

Do you make your own shrimp salad Lee?

I had that for lunch today - I buy frozen uncooked shrimp from Sams - I like it on toast with lettuce. Chips too if around.

    I'm hungry!

I've been known to whip up a batch of shrimp salad, although my problem is that half the shrimp get interecepted by my mouth before ever entering the mixing bowl. I might have some type of eating disorder.

If we allow subs, several contenders vie for my top spot. Philly Cheese Steak (preferably with just sauteéd onion, cheese and mayo), meatball, Italian sausage...

If it's just loaf-sliced bread, then it's all about the Reubens, for me. I (slightly) prefer pastrami, and I want sauerkraut and thousand island dressing, with the bread's edges just a bit crisp. That sandwich is a bit of a challenge to make properly, because you have to balance so many dispirate elements, but when it comes together, it's something to behold.

Peanut butter and hard boiled egg on a buttered roll does it for me , got to have a V-8 juice to dip it in though .

Can't even begin to tell you how many places think I am kidding when I ask for that sammich .

Not a big meat eater , a Turkey club is great though too .

Oh, yeah! A local sports bar'n'grill makes one of the best Monte Cristos! The description off the take-home menu:

"Sliced grilled ham, turkey and Swiss cheese. Served on battered grilled egg bread with chive mayonnaise."

You dip the sandwich in the chive mayo served on the side. They also sprinkle powdered sugar on the sandwich. Eat that with their crispy-on-the-outside-warm-and-soft-on-the-inside tater tots, and you've got a meal made in heaven.

I'm hungry even after eating a good breakfast just now!

A combo at Mr. Beef on Harlem in Chicago.

For those of you that have'nt been to Chicago a combo starts with french bread then, then an Italian sausage,
then hot Vienna Italian beef with juice.
You have the option to have mozzarella cheese on it if you wish.
When you order, if you want no beef juice you would say you would want it dry.
If you want beef juice on it you would say you want it wet.
  • I always like it extra wet, my chicken wings too.image

I usually am not a fan of anything purchased at a ball game but at the Q they make these sandwiches on a thick slice of bread with turkey, cornbeef or roast beef with slaw and homemade french fries on the sandwich. I usually get a sandwich at every game I go with another side of fries...they are awesome. The Q is where LeBron plays for those that don't know....
