If the Mint really wanted to do something for collectors...

They could start circulating a limited run of all denominations with the "S" or "W" MM. The last time we had any "S" mint coins were the early 70's with the Cent and Nickel. Why not today?
Any thoughts?

I think the reason they don't do such things is that it is not really a part of their mission. The Mint does not exist to service collectors.

True and False. Yes they are there for the sole purpose of producing circulating coinage for the US and abroad, but they do make proof and uncirculated sets for collectors.

They go through all the trouble and work to make a coin like this

{please no disrespect meant or intended to this particular coin, just these commems in general)
What do collectors really want more, the 2009svdb or that.
Be nice to bring that back..... and Miss Liberty as well.

I thought it was the 80-S?
Even today they could do this if they wanted to. They could just mint the states coins and special issues to current demand rather than average annual demand.
It would be nice to see some small mintages just so long as they are real and not planned. It would be nice if they aren't too rare too. We must be careful what we wish for.

NO MORE DEADHEADS!
Plus discontinue the cent and nickel. Stop printing $1 FRNs so that the coin can ciruculate and consider higher denomination coins. Save the taxpayers billion$ each year!

I think that we should rekindle the idea of “Don’t tread on me!” into our coinage. I would like to see themes that show our heart and strength. Let’s see the twin towers with “We won’t forget!" emblazoned onto the coin. Let’s see the raising of the flag of Iwo Jima. Let’s see the first steps on the moon. Finally, let’s see this done with some pride and artistry. With today’s technology we could create coins with high relief and detail. That is what I would like to start seeing.
The mint should not be doing things for collectors except offering mint sets and Proof sets at reasonable prices. Right now there are way too many coins for collectors to buy. It would thousands of dollars to keep up with all this stuff.

Ah, yes. I stand corrected. Thank you for pointing that out.
<< <i>It would be a waste of taxpayers money. The S mint coins never circulated. The W mint coins would even be worse.

S Mint coins never circulated? I don't understand.
