The "Zombie" thread - With pics

Did it work?? The new title......??
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Okay, here is an "off-color" cent that I came across and set aside...
FIRST - I do not need to know how much of a crappy piece of junk it is, because I'm perfectly aware of that!
The "brassy" cent is shown on the right-hand side in each pic. It looks like someone whizzed(?) the obverse as it has more hairlines than I've ever seen on any coin (maybe they were trying to get rid of the funny color??) Since it has obviously been cleaned, I took another 75 that had been cleaned (from a teaching experience with my daughter, to let her see the 'unnatural' pink that an older cleaned cent has when it is not an original 'red' color)... and I photographed them side-by-side. The reverse looks pretty natural, the weight seems to be pretty normal, the edges are the same color as the rest.... so, what gives? Any ideas............ ?

Different light:

My "white balance" doesn't do a great job, it auto-balances to the pink side I think (my hand is not that pink!!).

No comments, eh?? (Is this the old, "if you've got nothing good to say....."?)

Yeah..... you don't notice all the hairline scratches until you put it under a bright light....
But in-hand the color is very brassy, that's what caught my attention. Maybe I'll toss it in the bottom of my purse and see it the hairlines go away, or if the color changes??
Well............. it is a *mystery* to me...... as no one has given me a clue as to what may have caused the "brassy" color on this cent ~

or................scratchy wahtchy!!!!!!!
I like that windswept adjective!!!
<< <i>The color is indeed decidely different.... have you used a scale for the weight? Does it sound different when dropped on a hard surface? You might ask a metallurgist for a chemical test (small application to the edge). Cheers, RickO >>
The weight was 3.1 grams.... my ears don't discern differences in sound well - and just where do you come across a metallurgist (in general)?
Question: does anyone have any pics of actual, verified brass cents? Any additional info on them?? Thanks for your continuing patience ~
<< <i>I can't really comment on the color difference, but the coin on the right looks like it's been cleaned with an eraser. Maybe that has something to do with it. >>
Hmmm, interesting observation. That would cause all those millions of hairlines?? I didn't think rubber was that abrasive? Might make sense, but the reverse is not all scratched up?? And thank you so much for your consideration and input!!!
