Just cancelled my Silver Eagles from the mint:

I feel the metals market is coming down and I can pick them up cheaper at a later date.

  • The year is young yet...they are going to mint no limits anyway...one's to have are the 06's!

It is also a relif to see them come down...I would rather the market correct then to have an all out depression on our hands....I hold silver and gold and am glad to see it go lower!
  • it will be interesting to see if they reprice it downwards. I've never seen them reprice down, only up.

How many did you order for it to make a difference?
I only ordered 3 anyway...figured it wouldn't make a huge difference, one way or the other.

  • I usually order 20!

Sometimes they turn into a box of 20.image

I only ordered one for my personal collection, and figure to hope for a better example by ordering early.

I doubt VERY much that they will lower the price image

  • when do you think the mint will stop making ASE?
  • Maybe they will...06, they were $20 last year I think they were $21.95...then silver started running and then they priced them a little to the high side...no won't make much difference but if silver continues to fall they just might fall back to $20.

That's an interesting question. With the new elections coming there may be new people getting jobs in the MINT.

Who decides on these designs they make anyway ?

Silver now at $16.71 & still correcting. The Mint will adjust their price once the downward pressure subsites. They did it for the 2006 Buffalo...it just took a while...

The thing is, silver is so violently volatile that it could easily shoot back up to $20 in a couple of weeks. I have noticed increased volatility in the precious metals, as this bull gets older.

This year I ordered 0 and saved myself the trouble of canceling. Should be able to get them near mint pricing already slabbed on e-bay. image

Integrity here in a bullion thread? Nah.

P.S. I have never cancelled an order or returned a coin because of market price fluctuations. I have been tempted a couple of times.

No....too many people who are only in it to quick flip. Seems fewer and fewer on this board actually care about the coins

  • I ordered 11, a box of 5, and a box of 6, and don't plan on canceling. I keep a box of 5 sealed. And keep a loose one, or two. And sell the rest to friends and coworkers. So i will have 2 boxes of 5, FS elidgible. 07W and 08Ws!! I try to buy any 06Ws, every chance i get. i believe they are still undervalued. But hey, what do i know?

Nothing wrong with cancelling an order with the mint. If bullion shot up, the mint wouldn't hesitate to cancel your order.

Not planning on cancelling/returning any of my recent orders for gold. However, if the mint does lower prices w/in the next few weeks (which I personally don't expect them to do) would they give me a credit of the price drop? Or would I really have to do the return w/in 30 days and then repurchase at the lower prices?

Just got my first set of Elizabeth Monroe proof and uncirculated today actually. Yeah, I'm building a couple of sets of these... image

IMHO it's a temporary correction and will right itself -- at least partially. I was surprised the run up lasted so long. I'm in for the long run, and the silver & gold W eagles will be great collectibles. NOPE, I think when the correction hits, those who canceled early will lose since the sellouts are close for 07.

The Mint is fast to adjust the price upward, and slow to adjust downward....

The issue may be; can they get enough metal (near spot) to continue the program?
