Run On the Bank of Apmex!

MilesWaitsMilesWaits Posts: 5,402 ✭✭✭✭✭
Due to the OVERWHELMING demand for precious metals, our online ordering system has been unable to keep up with our customers’ needs. We have had to disable the APMEX ordering system to allow us ample time to upgrade our site to accommodate the increased demand. We apologize for this temporary problem. In the mean time, we will be accepting telephone orders for the following items only as we have them available:

• 1 ounce Gold American Eagles
• 1 ounce Gold Canadian Maple Leafs
• 1 Ounce Gold Krugerrands
• 100 oz Silver Bars
• Misc Generic .999 Fine Silver
• 90% Coin Silver

During this time, we will have a minimum order of $5,000.

Run on the APMEX Banks!
Now riding the swell in PM's and surf.

    Wow, demand must be incredible.

I wonder if they have enough supply to cover all of the purchases.

Hmmm, I should see how strong they are paying for graded half eagles. I could bump up the price on a few. image

edited: their precious classics section is a joke, they are literally just buying the holder and not the coin.

I wonder if they are still charging extra for ordering using the phone.
When I bought from them just over a year ago, the ordering online was having problems...I called and the guy, instead of taking my order since it would cost extra, stayed on the phone and we tried a few different things and made sure the order went through. 10+ minutes on the phone with him yet he wouldn't take my order without the surcharge, so I bought online.

    Talk about stupid business practices

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I'm always amazed by their business practices. I don't understand how they can do so well.

    Same with Tulving.

I can buy cheaper and sell for higher at more places than I can count.

You pay for good service, try KITCO.
    If buying gold, try:
    Only Gold

The price of gold is set by faith, or lack of, in the currency it is priced in.

    Even Tulving is showing:
"over spot prices" with many "out of stock" notices...guess we are seeing a run on metals buying!

It's interesting to note that while the physical "real" market is on fire, the paper "fake" market is tanking.

This is happening in silver too. All the major dealers are having a hard time buying it. I know my B&M dealer was having a hard time stocking 2008 silver eagles due to demand when it was over $20 an ounce and was quite surprised since he keeps telling me this is 79/80 sell now....image

I don't really believe that 'everyone' is 'really' OUT of stock - I really believe that they don't want to sell low.

    IMHO

yeah right, all the dealers are conspiring to hold out. come on now.

Dealers can't afford to "long term" hold on anything and stay in bussiness. I'm sure the selling is drying up and buying is picking up. The dealers were caught on the 79/80 game and if they think it may go lower they'll dump it to save their bussiness IMO.

this was happening yesterday as well....

paper profits are being taken due to end of quarter bookings...and guess what?....commodities are the place to take tome profit and to cover what and where on what $$ was lost.

could be an interesting foretell(sp) to a blast off of holding physical PM

Just curious, but since it's been mentioned of "better places than Tulving", can anyone point me to 1 or 3 that have better prices on 90% circulated silver?

I checked them out once and it seemed like they had a good deal if you wanted to buy a half or full bag of junk silver and they didn't want to sell just $100 worth. If your buying that big those prices are all over it's the smaller purchases that cost more. When you sell to a dealer it's better to have a half or full bag to get the most money out of them too. That way they can just dump them for quick profit.

I think something is messed up with Apmex's website and that is a cause of the traffic...I attempted to order a couple of things late Sunday night and it took my order...but on Monday it was gone and I have not been able to successfully complete an order since...the Ajax calls don't seem to be working very well.....and I often get a 'Site Not Available' which means it is hung up or down, not just running slow.

The US Mint is sold out of 2008 bullion silver eagles and has suspended sales. They are telling distributors they do not know when they'll be back in stock.

You could look at it another way too. That's physical silver is harder to get than paper silver and it's now showing............ It seems to me they think they can sell what they've got in bulk instead of shipping a million little orders.

true - but, they would make way more money on the outrageous shipping fees that they all charge if they sent out more smaller orders . . . or maybe they are saving what's left for the other dealers -- still a joke.

Bullsh1t marketing ploy. If their web site was truly brought to its knees, they should fire their IT staff... it's not like the site gets the ecommerce traffic of Amazon.
