Home Metal Detecting

Hurray!!! ...my first merc!

Hi
I went to the beach for a couple of hours but nothing interesting came up. I was getting ready to leave and as I was mding my way out of there I saw what looked like a penny, once I got it off the ground my heart just jumpedimage I could not believe I had found my first merc ...boy am I excited!

This is where I found it only it was half covered with dirt. Once in my hand the wing was the first thing I saw. If I had seen the wing before pulling it out I would have taken a picture, either way I just love it.

This is what I found
A 2002D dime, 1989D quarter, Wyoming quarter, 1971S penny, two 1977D pennies, 1989D penny, 2001P penny, 2004D penny, three rocks of some sort of metal (possibly lead), a staple and the beautiful (and my first) 1918P mercury dime.

This was my second silver coin ever found with my detector, the first one was another dime only it was a 1954 Rossy that I will picture later and post here for you to enjoy.
Happy hunting everybody!

  • Congrats on your first Merc. That is an awesome coin to pull out of the ground. I sure do love digging them. I've only managed three (at least I think it's three without looking in my info) but everyone one of those were awesome to dig. It's a great feeling pulling that coin out of the ground.

Close, it was between Half Moon Bay and Santacruz.

Thank you that is such a good idea, so far I have pictured both places where I had found silver and kept a record of it.
