Okay, now what? I'm not paying....

So I just won this auction about 20 minutes ago. Had it on my snipe for a few days. Seller immediately sends me an invoice and I'm about to pay. The only problem I have is now he's tagging on an additional $2.95 for insurance which just says required. I looked over the auction carefully and no where does it say anything about insurance, plus it was not offered on the bottom. $3.95 to ship 3 cards was more than what I was willing to pay but incorporated that into my snipe bid. To add another $2.95 makes it close to a total of $7 to ship 3 cards which is more than 1/3 of the final price....ridiculous! I sent the seller an email explaining what I just said here; that I'll pay the $3.95, but will not pay for the extra $2.95. He can either adjust it, or we can both do a mutual agreement not to complete the transaction. Did I proceed with this correctly?

Insurance should be optional on this auction and then priced at the USPS rates since that is how he is shipping. I assume this is why he has a 4.4 on his shipping feedback.

    Yup.

Provided the INS is not mentioned in the listing,
    you are good to go.

EBAY checkout IS broken, today. That could be
an element of the problem, I suppose. (I had
one buyer complain about a 22.00 INS fee on
    a 22.00 item. I offer FREE insured-shipping on
ALL purchases. Somehow, the $22 just plugged
into the box. I had to change my settings from
"Do Not Allow Buyer To Edit," so that she could
fix it. I was unable to send her a correct invoice.)

He has several negatives for charging for insurance and then shipping without insurance. If you don't mind getting your first neg over a couple bucks then don't pay it.

He's trying to pull a fast one. I wouldn't pay it either.

Two things would of happened here if the insurance amount was disclosed in the auction for a total of $6.90. 1) I wouldn't of bothered to bid/snipe. 2) If I were to bid, I would of set my snipe
accordingly to his price, but I seriously doubt I would of even bothered to bid at that price.

  • You are 100 % right, he is a scam artist, I wouldn't pay the insurance either.

Jim, I'll take the neg. I'm not giving him the satisfaction of pocketing extra money just for the hell of it. I bet he probably wouldn't even insure it anyway. Still waiting on a response from him. I sent a well-mannered email explaining the ordeal. If he wants to be a hard ass about it and adamant for the extra money, he can kiss my butt. Negs don't bother me. This name is completely for buying. I have a lot of other names for buying as well. He's a seller....I can do more terrible / fun things to him in the long run.
  • "Shipping and Handling for the US will be $3.95 shipped in a BUBBLE MAILER." and under insurance it says NONE.

what a sleaze bag. He's already ripping you off on shipping, now he is tacking on Insurance too?
  • I'd probably send the invoice to eBay's attention, showing them where he didn't mention insurance in his auction, but is demanding it at payment. Maybe if a few people brought this turkey to their attention, he might change his ways.

    UPDATE:

He just sent me a revised invoice without the insurance. No note attached or anything. Maybe he's embarassed or whatever.
I paid with PP; of course now I have this visual image that he's
rubbing the cards against his nuts and under his armpit, or creating
scratches or god knows what. Here's a couple scenarios:

    1) Do you think I'll receive the item/ him mailing them?
    2) Do you think I'll receive it in a PWE (plain white envelope)?
    3) Do you think there will be damage to the cards out of spike?

What this seller is trying to do is against eBay policy. I would report them, cancel the transaction, and never bid on their auctions again personally.
