Home Metal Detecting

Wish I had a detector...

Headed to Port Aransas for 10 days. It's the middle of Spring Break... No telling what I could find there working the beach at low tide in the early mornings... Should have thought of this a few weeks ago image

For sure... although if you do get up early, you will probably see many other MD'rs combing the sands... Cheers, RickO
  • I have to say this is probably one of the coolest message boards on the net today. I've been enjoying the posts and the pix of the treasures that people have been finding and posting. This is my first post and I too will be taking a MD with me when I go down to NC in the early fall to comb the beaches. I am looking at purchasing a metal detector right now as we head into the warmer months.

I've always wondered do you have to ask before you go md'ing on the beach, in the parks, near a resevior, near a school? I've been watching people's md adventure's on YouTube and they go all over the place. Is it ok if there are no signs saying you can't do it? I have a friend who went down to the historic Viriginia area and went to a state park and they said they wouldn't let him look for Civil War bullets in the park on the trails but he could go MDing in an area near the park. They ended up finding a couple of buffalo nickels.

But I've always wondered about beaches, parks, schools, lakes, other areas where people have gone to over the years where there could be some interesting finds?

Thanks again for all of the interesting posts. It's a really neat hobby! You get fresh air. You can take great pix while you're out there. Get some good exercise and you're preserving history by trying to find it.

Dollarcoins... first.. .welcome to the forum....
Second... study, ask questions here etc before your first investment.
Third... I have detected beaches in NC.... no permission required. Parks, schools etc... you may well need permission. State parks almost never let you detect - especially in historic (ie.. civil war) areas.
    Cheers, RickO
  • Thanks for the welcome RickO. I am looking at getting a Bounty Hunter MD from Cabelas. It's the Cabela's Treasure Hunter Metal Detector Combo by Bounty Hunter

It has touch pad controls and the digital display that gives a depth indication and target ID to avoid unecessary digging. Detects coins to 9" deep and larger objects to 4 feet. Cabela's Seclusion 3D® camo accents. Includes detector, headphones and carrying bag.
    Features:
    LCD Target Readout
    LCD Depth Readout
    Low-Battery Indicator
    Motion All-Metal Mode
    Touchpad Selection
    3 Modes of Operation
    Discriminate Adjustment
    Target/Notch System
    3-Tone Audio Discrimination
    Sensitivity Adjustment
    Squelch-Tec Noise Reduction
    Automatic Ground Balance
    4-Level Iron Discrimination
    8" Open-Face Coil System Text

From what I've read of other posts it seems the Bounty Hunter is a pretty reliable name. It's my first one so I don't want to go way over my head.

Be careful. I do know that it is illegal to hunt on state and federal park property in TX..
