Food at the Ball Park

The thread on Burgers got me thinking about Ball park food. What do you like? What stadium has the best hotdogs? nachos? Fries? Weird food?
I would say best hotdog I ever had was outside of Yankee stadium. Great dogs there! Weirdest food was in San Diego when we had sushi. Sushi at a ball game? I could only wonder what my Dad and Grandpa would have thought of that.

The chorizos at Miller Park are outstanding...wrapped in a tortilla with fresh peco...they do it up right! It's no surprise, because all of the Klements sausages at Miller Park are top notch.

I know we had sushi at Fenway, not sure if it is still there though. Can't beat the Fenway Frank! Very hard to find the Nacho cart at Fenway only a few are throughout the stadium.

I usually am a Fenway Frank and Peanut eater at the Park, but I have to say, Fenway has diversified it's selection a lot since I was a kid. They used to have terrible food. Now it's just mediocre. I think Dodger Dogs are pretty bad. Anaheim Stadium food is just ok. The food at PetCo in San Diego struck me as some of the best I've had. The absolute worst hot dog on the planet is at Yankee Stadium.

Hard to find anything at Fenway, that stadium is so cramped! They do have great dogs though. There is also a great microbrewey across the street. They have maybe 10-15 different beers all named after the Park of baseball players. A great place to enjoy cold one before the game! My first trip to Fenway was last summer- what a place. You get goosebumps when you walk in there. You can feel the hsitory

I was outside Yankee stadium, from a street vendor, and this was 7 years ago. Also, we had a good session at a bar before, so maybe it was not as good as I remember.

You mean Boston Beer Works? Great pre-game bar.another thing Fenway isn't lacking in. Between Copperfields, Boston Beer Works, The Cask & Flagon and Game On (that one is newer), Fenway's surrounded by good spots to hang out before and after a game

Never had dogs from a street vendor at Yankee Stadium. I was talking about the ones inside the park.

  • Yeah, Boston beerworks, that was the name. I have to say, I have never been a fan of the Red Sox. Raised an Indians fan, and was taught to hate the Red Sox and Yankees. I try and get to a few different parks every year. Fenway totally blew me away (and I have been to many of the old ones) Like you say, great atmosphere outside the stadium. Lots of places to drink and eat and have a blast before/after the game. A little piece of me likes the Sox now because of the experience. If you are a baseball fan, its one place everyone should get to once in their life.

Most of the food at Shea is terrible. Let's hope the new CitiField will be awesome.

I got massive food poisoning about 10 years ago from a Dodger dog, probably E Coli. Lost 25 lbs, sick as a dog for 2 weeks. Finally went to the doctor and when I related my symptoms he said instantly "dodger dog". He said he treated about 3 bad cases a year and thought the dogs were reheated from the day before. His advice was never eat a dog before the 2nd inning.

I"ll agree on Miller Park, it's just a great park all around, food included.
The dogs at Chase/BankOne/whatever (Dbacks) were really good too.

  • Alright, if you're talking burgers, there has to be mention of the freakin' Krispy Kreme donut burger (yeah, a burger in between to halves of a krispy kreme donut, that's gotta be good for the heart, lol). I'm not sure what stadium or sport had that at their stadiums though. Anyone?

The best soft pretzel I ever had was a cold, leftover one from a vendor outside Veteran's Stadium after a game in '86.

No doubt, a free coupon for 10% off of a quad-bypass. Here's the link, it was a St. Lous Minor League stadium. There's a picture of it, I can't help but think that I should try one of those, lol. Maybe when I'm 85 and ready to kick it, that'll be my last meal for sure.

  • Cuban Tamales from street vendors outside of Dolphins Stadium in Miami. There aren't any typical "American Food" vendors outside of the stadium at all, only Cuban, which is fine with me!!!

After working a number of years in the front office for the Chicago Cubs I have learned to never eat the hot dogs until at least the 1st inning. The gates have been open for awhile and they have had time to sell off the old "stock". I will never forget walking into the food prep area after a rain out. They had many of the workers taking the hot dogs out of the buns and scraping them with their hands to get any remnant of bun off the hot dog. They were then putting these back in the box and and off to the refrigerator they went to be sold the next day. Its been a long time since I have eaten a ballpark hot dog!

And as far as Miller Park in Milwaukee goes.....Any sousage is great up there as long as you have it dipped in the special stadium sauce. Dont ask what it is just have them dip it.
I am on a budget and I am not afraid to use it!!
