Strange finds at the soccer park...

Hello folks! It's been a while since I've posted any finds. It's not that I haven't been trying. Just the luck of the draw. I've been to a 100 year old park in Pasadena. I've been to the old CCC camp near my house and got skunked there too. The soccer park nearby panned out yesterday though. It was somewhat of a strange outing.
Aside from the regular modern coinage I found (probably 4 bucks), three items made the hunt worthwhile. Almost immediately I got a hit and when I retrieved it, it was a 1978 French franc. That makes sense for a soccer park in So. Cal. After approximately an hour I got a hit that I was confident of being a nickel. Well it was. A 1944-D war nickel. The odd thing was it wasn't even buried. It was laying atop the ground in the grass. A recent drop someone was unknowing that they had. I'm not going to post a picture of either of those because we know what a war nickel looks like. The French franc might be worthy of a picture, but I'm lazy.
The other item I did find is a .925 silver ring. Now I'm thinking it might just be a neckerchief slide because of it's size and the opalescent stone in the middle, but the Commander-in-Chief says, "naw, it's a pimp ring". Okay. Here's the photo. You decide. I haven't weighed it yet, and it might be difficult to gauge the silver weight until I pop the stone out.

<< <i>Are you sure that ring doesn't open up to reveal a hidden compartment? >>
No Bob, it has an opening on the back.
Good to see you've been able to get out.
I'd settle for a good skunking, just to say I was out.
I dug one one time that was a big, honkin' "nugget" style ring... for TWO fingers. But it was gold plated, not real gold. A lot of the plating had come off after less than ten years in the ground.
PS- can't see your Photobucket pix here from work, but I'll try to have a peek from home later.
