New to the hobby

Well, I have been wanting to do this my whole life (all 29 years) and I finally decided to give it a go. I purchased a Bounty Hunter Tracker IV which I know isn't very good at all but I figured I should start out small and see where it takes me. I live in ND where there are alot of old old farmsteads so I thought it would be neat to see what's out there. Hopefully Spring will come early and I can get out there and start digging. I have enjoyed reading everyone's posts and their finds. Wish me luck

  • Welcome Robert! Just wanted to let u know that I'm fairly new myself (9 months) to this hobby and I also started with the Bounty Hunter IV. I have to disagree with your opinion of the BH! You need to be confident in your detector and I'm here to tell you it is a very good detector!!! I've been quite successful with its performance as I have found coins, silver, rings, gold, pull tabs, pull tabs, pull tabs, etc!!! It is a great starter. Turn on and go! Pretty simple and very effective! I'm sure you will do very well!! So get out and dig! Keep us posted of your findings! This is a great forum and plenty of old pro's who know it all when it comes to MDing!!! Rich

It's a great hobby. Frustrating at times, but well worth the time and effort. Enjoy it, and keep us posted on what you find.

  • Hello Robert. Welcome to the site. I started detecting 12 years ago with a Bounty Hunter Tracker IV and I am absolutely pleased with it. The first 7 years I was detecting, I actully wore out three mchines, because I was going 2-4 times a day, every day. Some days I was spending 10-12 hours in the field each day.A new one was sent to me by Bounty hunter each time I send one in for repair. I still use the Bounty Hunter Tracker IV today. I have totalled over $3,700.00 in coins in twelve years. That amount does not include any of the rings and other pictures of jewelry I have found during that time abd listed some of them here. It is a dependable machine and should do well for you.
    Good Luck....Ken...The MDH

This couldn't be truer. Almost any detector in the hands of someone who is patient and willing to learn can be a rewarding experience. Have fun with it, post any questions that you may have and lastly, welcome!
