So will the U.S. Mint readjust maximum mintages for the Gold Spouses

Surmising that the collector base for these issues is probably between 5000-7000 now and depending how long the Madison Gold Spouse lingers on- will the mint lower the maximum mintages to 10,000? The steep price increase also seems to add a nail in the coffin to this series. I for one hope they do readjust the mintages being a collector of the series. Guess we will have to keep an eye out on the Monroe. It would seem the lower mintages might appeal more to collectors also.
5-7K of these have already been melted from the first year. Seems like a waste of time for the mint to produce the maximum. More than likely these will be minted based on demand from now on perhaps.

I'm curious to know if they will ever re-start the subscriptions for these?

Yes they might a mistake pulling the subscription program. But how many would be cancelling their subscriptions now that we have some idea of what the true collector base is. A large quantity of Jefferson Spouses were also melted. I see maybe 10k collecting these perhaps. I believe the subscription program sold out because of the Liberties not the Spouses.

There is no need to lower the maximum mintage. They can mint these to demand or melt anything that was over produced. Some designs will still sell out. Most will not creating a nice variance in mintage meaning some will carry a premium in the future when others decide to start collecting.

Maximum mintage means just that.. anything up to that point is OK.... no need to change figures. The initial figure is set by Congress, not the mint. IMO any real increase in value - if ever - will be long after we and probably our children have gone to the big coin show in the sky. Cheers, RickO

I agree they will most likely be minted to demand. But its seems a big waste of manpower on the mints efforts to produce all 40K for one issue especially for the issues offered toward the end of the year that will be unpopular. Minted to demand works great for the first issues of the year but not for issues offered near the end of the year since all 40K will have to be produced. It will great to know if they do this or not. Or perhaps these unsold issues will linger for years on the mint's website and from a marketing stand point that doesn't bode well at all for the series that is already seeing even more waning collector interest. Right there with proof and mint sets. My Spouse coins so far have appreciated nicely just on precious metal content alone. Of course at $600+ a pop it is getting risky as a bullion play.
Gold and silver are valuable but wisdom is priceless.
