Grade the Walker(pic heavy)

Many of you might have seen this walker I picked up last week. The more I look at it the better it looks.

Here's the problem I paid $30 for it and I'm thinking about sending it in to PCGS.
The fields are extremely clean and also when taking the pics I noticed some doubling? on in "god" and "trust" on the obverse.
Do you guys see the same thing? or is that very common for walkers?
The only distracting mark is on the reverse at the end of america.

Opinions are alway appreciated!
Thanks Guys/gals
Jim

Looks like a very nice lustrous example. I can't tell from the photos but it looks like there might be some friction on the devices of the obverse. Grade might be limited by this. Not sure if it's really worth the cost of slabbing unless you are going to keep it for a long time and just want it protected.

Sorry I don't know if doubling is common on these.

Maybe it's the photo or my monitor but it doesn't look very "sharp" kinda like a weak strike although walkers aren't
    know for that. IMHO

Good details, not a bad strike actually. Great luster in the fields. Hits on the Sun and near the knee will likely keep this out of a 65 holder. I'll call it MS64. Dunno if it is worth slabbing unless that is important to you. I think not bad for $30.

    Any thought on the doubling?

  • I'm going with 63, from the image the luster looks a little flat...

Does it have a die scratch through the center of the 9 and 4?

Only the 1946 Philly issue is know to have the reverse doubling, so doubt this '42 has it, though I don't know everything. I think your coin is a MS64 and maybe even a 65 on the right day - I've got some that aren't as nice in a 65 holder. The strike on that coin is average or a little above in my opinion.

I'd go with the MS64 grade group. Not sure what your intent is as far as sending it in to PCGS....It makes a nice type or album coin 'as is', and there is little upside profit, even if it slabs 65 (factoring in the original cost, plus shipping, ins, and slabbing cost, you'd already be at or over MS64 money). I highly doubt PCGS would label the the light doubling with the CONECA or Breen numbers, and there is little to no market premium for this. But if you want to test the waters and take a shot, go for it, as there is virtually no downside.
