Can't people (i.e. dumb bidders) tell that something is goofy looking with that date?

Here's another case of a seller who really knows what they are doing.

Check out his other auction. A 85 O Morgan.... only the pics in the auction are of a 1883 O coin.
I'll see your bunny with a pancake on his head and raise you a Siamese cat with a miniature pumpkin on his head.

You wouldn't believe how long it took to get him to sit still for this.

I've often thought that too. I mean, people who'd want a 1921 Peace Dollar aren't just buying a random silver dollar, they know that it's a key date....which makes me think most of the bids are shills. I think the seller gets a few of his friends to bid it up, so it looks legit and then hopes that one "dumb bidder" comes along so he gets paid.
Positive BST transactions with: too many names to list! 36 at last count.
  • heres one on the bay... ad say 1928 peace dollar.... looks like a 27 in picture

Doesn't even appear to be the high relief 21 style, but rather the typical low relief of later coins.

That is one strange looking coin.

e-bay should put a button on raw coin auctions that when pressed notifies some pre approved numismatist that authenticity is questionable, please verify before auction transaction is complete.

Wow... and there's a dealer in the bidder crowd too with a $71 bid! image

Obviously an altered 1927 with the top bar of the '7' digit removed. And with a blob of a mintmark still visible.

And of course, not in high relief. image

[Edit to add: No, the more I look at it, the more this obviously not a merely altered coin, but a fake one.]

    I wonder if it's an altered 1924-S?

While I much prefer to mind my own business, Ive been ripped off on both a 1921 and a 1928p myself in the past and I couldnt resist emailing the winning bidder to recommend a close look at what they were about to buy.
