Consecutively numbered slabs?

I have noticed that some silver eagle sellers on E-bay, point out Consecutively numbered slabs as if these are rare & hard to find. is this a new trend? Deserving of a premium. Opinions please!

Some people believe that if the slabs are consecutively numbered, they must have been in the original packaging together. So, the idea is that it's not a "put together" set, it's one that has been together since the day it left the Mint.

However, I believe that certification numbers are changed upon reholder. So, if you've got a 70-70-70 set of 20th Anniversary SAE's without consecutive certification numbers, you could send it in for reholder and the #s will be consecutive now.

Don't hold me to that, I'm not entirely sure if they change the numbers, but if I remember correctly they do.

No premium for consecutive serial numbers. It just means a group of coins went in under one submission.

If you ask, they will reholder the certs in consecutive order. Otherwise, they will usually keep the original cert number.

It also depends on how the submission form is filled out. If you send more than one set and list the coins in order seperatly, they will be numbered consecutively. If you group the coins together on the form then those coins will be numbered consecutively.

If you send in 5 of the 2006 20th Anniv ASE sets you can list 5 of each type of coin on 3 different lines on the submission form and all the proofs will come back with consec cert numbers, the reverse proofs too and the uncirc also, but no 3 coin sets will have consec cert numbers. You can list each set separately for a total of 15 line items if you want all 5 sets to have consec numbers.

My experience with This is that Duiring The Peak of The 20th Anniversary ASE Sets being Sold, I Had quite a Few Potential Buyers E-Mail me and ask for Consecutive Serial Numbers. This was The First Time in All my Years i had Been Asked This Question and Found it Quite Curious.Then i Realized that Some Folks Will Collect Just about Anything and In Their own Way. After That Time,whenever i did Have Consecutive Serial Numbers Available i would Mention it in a Listing as Information for those that cared,but, In My Opinion,It does not deserve any added Premium. Ray in Florida..

At least with the coins from unopened sets, consec cert numbers would indicate that the coins did indeed come from the same set and not cherrypicked pieced together ones, tho in reality what real difference would it make as I doubt the mint workers took ANY kind of care in matching coins in a set.

Collectors are oraganizers so if a set is consecutively numbered, it makes the world a pefect place and that is certainly worth a premium

Even if all 3 coins in the set are 68s?

This is true.

Sort of reminds me of back in my gearhead days. A buddy would hound Holley for CONSECUTIVE numbered 4-barrel carbs. To me, I just wanted two 750 double pumpers or whatever, but he insisted all his dual carb or tri-carb setups be consecutive numbered ones. His theory was they were made right after the other, will be more "Harmonically in balance" with each other, etc. I thought he was nuts, but once you get it in your head it's the thing to do, good luck convincing them otherwise.

Check.

Send all sets in for re-numbered holders in consecutive order before selling. Point the consecutive thing out in e-bay auction. Reap rewards.

Yep. Same for both PCGS and NGC.
