Gold is at $955.90. I guess the threatened IMF gold sale really has the gold bulls spooked.

I remember $1 in silver coins buying about 4 plus gallons of gas in 1964.
I remember 10c in silver coins buying a loaf of bread.
Today $1 in silver coins worth about $13 plus in silver now buys about 4 plus gallons of gas in 2008. 10c silver coin buys a half of a loaf of bread in the supermarket and a loaf of bread at the "day old bread store."
Well, a half a loaf is better than nothing at all.
Silver is rapidly approaching the same value it had back in 1964.

I was watching a rerun of Let's Make a Deal from about 1972 on the Game Show Network. 1000 gallons of Phillips 66 gasoline was the zonk (booby prize) worth just $250

I'm still a buyer of junk silver to this moment...you can still find it under spot, and alotof ebayer sellers are charging short shipping, throwing it in an envelope......I am still a buyer....gonna see $25 oz silver within 2 months or so.
I wish I'd bought more of those silver bars back when silver was $4 and some change.... And to think the discussion back then was the storage problem...
As euphoric as the rise is, what will be the buying power of $20 in the not so distant future? The value of the investment is its ability to keep ahead of inflation. Not saying it isn't and isn't going to continue though. But growth also has to be moderated by the real value in terms of buying power. Glad to be in gold and silver instead of dollars anyway.
Doubt it, though nobody really knows. I think it will ride flats for the most part for the next 1-2 days, going no higher than 19.45 and maybe retesting 19.00 support.

No one talks like this in NJ.
And the US Mint just told me that my order for silver State Quarters is canceled.
They are not available.
Oh well. I waited a day too long... Seem to be doing a lot of that lately.
I have enough to make me happy.
<< <i>You say that like $19 is real money? $19 is barely six gallons of gas. Regular gas. >>
I can remember when $19 would buy a hundred gallons of gas.

Nevermind him, he's just jealous.
In 1921 gas was 16 cents a gallon so 1 silver dollar bought 6 gallons of gas.
It is all relative.
