Ebay listings down 13% during boycott

According to an article in USA Today citing third party tracking sites such as dealscart.com and medved.net

Ebay disputes that number but won't release their own internal stats.

How much was that due to a spike in listings the week prior to the "boycott"?

It's like those "don't buy gas on X" days -- it doesn't reduce demand, it just displaces it by a couple days here and there. If this lasts for weeks, it might be significant.

That figure, as a single point statistic, is meaningless until you compare it to cyclical changes.... listings do not remain a constant week to week. Cheers, RickO

Michigan, as many have now told you, just link the damn story. Because you are too lazy to do so, is to your discredit.

Pretty much all of it. Using a pre 20c listing day number, US Coin listings went up during the boycott.

Folks, for many years there was always a cycle of cent listings between summer and winter. They averaged around peak of 11,000 in winter and as low as 5,000 in summers. Right now they are at 15,995. So it would have to be a hell of hit in boycott of just cents before anyone would blink at the bay.

Absolutely true, I got lazy and stopped updating that tracking thread I started but over the weekend the number of auctions in the US Coins category was consistently around 125,000-126,000. That number grew about 15% on the discounted listing day, but is right in line with the numbers before the boycott.

I appreciate Michigan's posts as do tons of more people. Please don't let these sour grapes ruin your day Michigan. The lack of appreciation shown by the few are disgusting.

  • Are you kidding me! We LOVE Michigan's posts. I started a thread about the cow about a week ago, and it went poof, so I just wanted to tell him about it now.

    Keep those posts coming, Michigan.
PS- I think that the cow can be rented.

A blue moon? He never links the source, and half the time doesn't even attribute the material. That's called copyright violation.

I've never seen him include a link. So a "blue moon" would be defined as every time he posts a news item?

And I'm still waiting for him to remove a home address from an article about a coin dealer who was robbed recently. That should be redacted.

This graph appears on a current CU thread.
Its meaning is unclear, at least to me.

These graphs are reflecting a general downturn in
the economy and having little to do with the boycott IMO.

What alternate websites have people been using lately with either completed sales or purchases? I hear people talking about alternates but not any success on them.

I went through one of my normal searches tonight that usually takes me about 15 minutes with 100-200 or so entries. Tonight it took 3 minutes and there wasn't even 50 entries. Very barren.

As a newspaper guy I have to agree, copyright violations are serious issues. Kinda like the internet theft of downloading music.
