1916 Matte Proof Diagnostics

1916 was the final year of authorized matte proof production.
Mintage: 1050
Dave Lange writes in his Complete Guide to Lincoln Cents that "The new obverse master hub introduced this year greatly enhanced the already rich detailing of Lincoln's hair and beard, making proofs of this date perhaps the most desirable from a technical and aesthetic standpoint."

Leonard Albrecht states that very little die polish is found on the 1916 MPL cents except in a few areas and some in early die state only.
Obverse die #1 Die polish between 1 and 9 in and around date area. Early die state image shows die polish in the date area.

In mid to late die states you see that most of the die polish has been greatly diminished

There is also die polish lines through TRUST and at WE, possibly in earlier die state examples. Image below, shows these die lines.
