I type in a lengthy story, when I hit post,
a box appears telling me I can't post or edit twice,

Try going back and see if it pops back up.

This has happened to me and I've always been lucky enough to get back to it.

If that happens, copy your post. Then paste and repost it. make sure you hit reply to thread only 1x!

Some forumites compose in Word and then download their tome into a post. FWIW

I usually open a text docment on my desktop if I know it will be more than a few lines. When finished just copy and paste. It has happened often enough when I finish a post that it never makes it to the server or it takes so long I give up and try to get back to the original to repost.
