Sureal Moment...

I spent a good part of today at my local museum, pouring over old maps of the city until the snow shut the place down and they made me go home.
I looked at maybe 20 or 30 old maps from the late 1600's on up to the early 1800's, and in each of them the map was dominated by this huge fort on a big hill, probably one of the earliest in North America, which is no longer here. Each time I saw the fort I took note of the name, which I recognized but I was kind of caught up in the maps and not really focusing on place names. I just filed it away for later.
Then I came across an actual plan and layout of the fort, and instantly thought about lining up the plans to the current terrain and starting a hunt! Then a memory clicked... while the fort no longer exists, it's name lives on in the form of the city's primary police station which just happens to be right next door to the museum.
It was at THAT moment that I realized, I was probably sitting right on top of the fort's courtyard...
