Questions for those of you who use PayPal shipping.

I've decided to switch to it since lately I've gotten too many bidders claiming they haven't received cheap stuff that I insure without delivery confirmation. I have my local post office do an internal search on the insurance number and, gee, it was actually delivered. Since delivery confirmation is only 18¢ through PayPal I'll be making the move, even though it actually takes me longer to process that way.
So, my questions are: Is there someplace where I can print a daily report of the shipping amount spent? And, is there a way to disable that stupid eMail it sends to tell me that I printed a label?

Here is a screenshot I just took.
You can do it by day, by week, or by month. It WILL bring up all the payments that have left your account but you can copy it into Excell and sort it by US Postal Service.
As for the email, I looked, I can't find a way to disable it.

Thanks Jesse ... did not know that was available ..
<< <i>You can get a label printer , such as the Brother QL-550 or Brother QL-500, and it can print 50 labels a minute. Quicker than the post office. >>
I have two QL-500's already. It's not the print speed, it's the PayPal processing speed. I can copy/paste the address in to the printer's software and fill out the slip faster than going through the multi-step printing process in PayPal.
jessewvu,
Thanks! That will work.

edited it even gives you names and addresses if needed.
I prefer to USPS beacuse you can have your items scanned and shown as received by the post office. I haven't been able to figure out how to do that on PayPal yet?
PayPal does offer their multi-label processing but I have never spent the time to figure that out either!
I think you can disable the PayPal e-mail that says you have "printed a PayPal label" by clicking something in your account preferences?
The thing that really turns me off on the PyPal shipping is having PAYPAL show on all the shipping labels. It's knda like a red flag. The nice thing is that you don't have to ship everything by Priority mail with PayPal.
<< <i>I think you can disable the PayPal e-mail that says you have "printed a PayPal label" by clicking something in your account preferences? >>
I went through all the different sections and couldn't find anywhere to do that. It would be nice, because I really don't want to receive 100 of these stupid eMails each weekend.
<< <i>The thing that really turns me off on the PyPal shipping is having PAYPAL show on all the shipping labels. >>
I tested the system today with a couple of shipments, and it doesn't say PayPal anywhere on the labels.

Yeah it says e-bay right?
<< <i>The thing that really turns me off on the PyPal shipping is having PAYPAL show on all the shipping labels. It's knda like a red flag. >>
It says eBay ... but I cut that part of my self sticking label .. It does not need to be on the label.
<< <i>Yeah it says e-bay right? >>
Nope. Here's what they look like:

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
I print on a 8.5x11 page of regular printer paper
it cuts in half and I have half page summary of label
that I write item on
and the label half tapes to the package
it only takes a couple minutes to go through input and print
need to weigh item - put in weight - check if insurance -
I can also print a packing slip from same area
so while one is printing - the previous is getting taped shut/packaged
and the next is getting weighed

wow, that's way different from the large label I get from paypal...I like that small one better.

Some questions about that mailing label, if you don't mind?
Do you do them right from the USPS site instead of PayPal? And if so, are you using your charge card instead of PayPal, or is that an option?
Do you have to have the amount of shipping shown on the label or can you elect to have it not shown?
Do you have Delivery Confirmation with it? Edited to add that I just saw Del. Conf. on the label so that's answered.
And last, do you receive a confirmation email when you print it? I realize you don't want them, but is it an option?
I looked everywhere in PayPal for that option to turn off too, and no luck. I did find an option to make it possible for a buyer to use that same link to print a return label if they need to return something. Doesn't happen often but I thought that was a good feature.
I like using the PayPal site only because I do mailings for the dealer I work for and used to use my own money and he reimbursed me or tried to pay ahead - now I can use his money and not have that worry. (We're in different states.) The one drawback is that with that PayPal delivery confirmation, it's not scanned at the post office and the buyer really doesn't know if you mailed it. If something is taking a week or more to get there, we can't prove it was mailed, only that we printed a label... you know the PO usually works well but there are times things take the scenic route.
Glad you found something that works for you.
Marlene
In regards to the email, I just created a bit bucket and set a rule for it. I have had to go back and check through some of them for some info. You could always just set a rule to dump to trash.
Hell, I don't need to exercise.....I get enough just pushing my luck.
<< <i>Do you do them right from the USPS site instead of PayPal? >>
Nope, it's printed through PayPal.
<< <i>Do you have to have the amount of shipping shown on the label or can you elect to have it not shown? >>
I elected to have it shown. Hiding it results in some bidders dinging the shipping cost DSR just because they get suspicious.
<< <i>Do you have Delivery Confirmation with it? >>
Yes. Also sig conf if selected, since it's thru PayPal.
<< <i>And last, do you receive a confirmation email when you print it? >>
Yes, since it's thru PayPal.

Yeah, I noticed when I was setting it up that Mac users are SOL.

save on that label
YOUR SHIPMENT IS NOT COVERED BY SELLER'S PROTECTION USELESS IT IS SHIPPED USING PAYPAL.

Those are Dymo labels. I have a Brother printer.
Edited to add: Those are more expensive per label, anyway.

PayPal shipping is not a requirement under the SPP, at least not yet. I can see them going to that in the future, though.

<< <i>Russ, were the bidders who claimed they did not receive their packages being dishonest, or did they eventually get them (or say they did)? >>
Surprisingly, they received the items shortly after I provided scans of the post office printout.

Sure it is. Ask Ira Stein about his $6k loss in arb with PP due to not using PP shipping. They'll enforce it on big $ sales now and will expand it to all in the future.

I print mine on 8.5 x 11 sticky stock. Cut out the label and stick it to the package and the delivery confirmation portion gets stuck to a duplicate of the packing slip.
I don't think I'd like this method if I did 100 packages a week though.
The name is LEE!

I created a folder in my email called "payables" I put all of those emails in that e-box and use it for my accounting. It's kind of redundant as I keep a hard copy. However, this folder contains all associated ebay fees that include LISTINGS, or upgrades. So for me, as annoying as the emails are, I just send them to my "Payables" folder.

<< <i>I created a folder in my email called "payables" I put all of those emails in that e-box and use it for my accounting. >>
I created one called "payship". Decided I wanted to keep them as I can run a search if a bidder contacts me needing tracking info. Quicker than logging in to PayPal and going in to history.

<< <i>I think shipping through PayPal is a wise business decision. >>
Unless you want to ship stuff at the first class/large envelope rate, which PayPal apparently doesn't offer. Too bad.

True enough there. I use small boxes and parcel post for those occasions.

The PayPal SPP FAQ makes no such declaration that I am aware of.

That is nonsense especially, since you can only insure a package up to $500 using PayPal shipping and you can't use it for registered mail. As long as you use delivery confirmation and signature confirmation for items over $250, you do not have to use PayPal shipping. You can add the tracking number to the transaction detail in your PayPal account and you would be covered under the seller protection program as long as you shipped it to the address listed under the transaction detail and it says the transaction is eligible for protection.

Sure. Read Ira Stein's PayPal horror story. Specifically the 3rd paragraph from the end. Then peruse the 35 page PP user agreement. I caught a paragraph in the PP user agreement that read something to the affect that even a legitimate claim does not guarantee reimbursement if PP can't get the money from the other party. PayPal horror stories abound. We have a couple of our own.
<< <i>I have to admit, your label looks 100% different (and better) than the ones I print out from PayPal. I wish I didn't have to cut a sheet of paper in half and then glue it onto every package I ship. However, I do like getting a "receipt", if you will, of the shipment which is printed on the other half of that full sheet of paper. >>
I use blank FEDEX shipping labels 8 1/2 x 11 sheets .. Only the top portion is sticky & you peel of the shipping label and attach it to your usps mailer or box..the bottom portion is your receipt with the mailing address, delivery confirmation #, insurance & total postage cost. This way you don't have to check your paypal account for the shipping cost.

Thanks - I remember that one.
Now, where does it say that you have to use PayPal Shipping in order to qualify for SPP? That is what I am concerned about.
And, I thought THAT was what was being discussed...
Thanks,
John

I just store the emails in a Outlook Express folder. A lot handier than logging into ebay and then paypal to check
details.
And set up your printer for DRAFT quality and Black & White. You will save 2/3 on ink and the label prints much faster.
Also do NOT display postage value on label. Stops all the complaining "Charged me $3.50 for shipping and handling but only spent $2.35"
<< <i>I don't feel like paying for 8.5x11 sticky stock

Use 1/2 a sheet of printer paper and it fits exactly on a 000 padded mailer. Glue it to the FLAP side and you have a tamperproof package.

Already did that. See previous post.

My thermal printer doesn't use much ink.

Already covered that. See previous post. Stealth postage encourages bidders to ding the shipping cost DSR. Since I add no handliing charges, I have no reason to hide it.
