Mark the date... Russ loses it

bestdaybestday Posts: 4,242 ✭✭✭✭
Surprised Russ would go off the cliff over the B&M thread about selling coins to some low ball dealers .Russ has been the one of the rocks of this posting community .

I experienced the same thing selling coins for a client this year . Seems to me , some coin dealers I contacted , still act like used car salesmen from the '60s . But as long as there are gullible people..oh well ...Hey Russ , here is one for youimage

  • No its not edited that I can see. I saw it happen before my very own eyes. I dont think it was off topic either. It was a dicussion about coins. Period. A few like usual got personal. But they always do and say its everyone else. I have this to say...image
  • Yeah, I didnt mean OT like not about coins, but OT like not about what the post started as, it definitely got personal.....

If by "off the cliff" you mean responding in kind to an attack leveled by a sniveling little troll who contributes nothing to the forums, then I am guilty as charged.

I glanced at the thread, didn't see anything really unusual. He calls a spade a spade and gets right to the point. Did he disagree with you this time? --Jerry
  • Ahooka, no disrespect intended, but of your 2800 posts, it seems like 25% of them are the dude eating the fish popcorn.....either that or simply "but does it have a sticker"?
  • I think the OP just figured he would test the "pust Russ's name in the title of the thread and get 100 posts" theory image

Because the mods and the owners get tired of the bullsheet. One of those posters needs to be given the boot. Nothing but negativity and asinine comments.

Mrearly if that is me you are speaking of kindly accept the following challenge, please try to photograph and sell everything listed on your website, now that is something that I would love to see. Am I asking for a lot here, isn't that what DEALERS are supposed to do? >>

Man, I respected you even if I didn't agree with you very much, but you seem to be off your meds at this point, JMHO.

  • Im sure some of that 2800 posts are popcorn. IS that not ok? Should I get into bashfest like evryone else. I was banned and promised to play nice.(for a time). Stickers, yes. Its a hot topic in our hobby.

So that means 75% are fine. Thats a good ratio compared to alot here. Plus, You know I post some nice coins now and then.image

Maybe I should just start bashing again. GROUND & POUND BIZZZZZZLEZZZZZZ
  • Aww come on folks.

Most B&M shop folks have to struggle to make a profit. Its volume and YES as Russ says, the overhead has to be met or you go home.

My local B&M shop has a few folks who show up with a very rare and/or specific variety and then they sit there , jaw agape, at the fact that they are not getting babilliions of dollars. You think the dealer is going to buy the coin at your price and still make a profit fast and quick eh?

Funny, but I recall inventory as being a real 400 pound monster as far as overhead as well. Yeah man. give me that 12 grand coin and klet it sit while I lose my customer base to all the new kids and their Dads hunting for starter sets.

I repauired watche for years, jewelry etc etc, your everyday plain Jane or Joe who wants a simple fix is your bread and butter. How about te sell me the 30 grand Omega signature etc etc who comes in? Great, BUT, you will get what I give my base...great service.

Dealers at a B&M have to make a profit, etc etc I love the B&M, you get to hold the coind and mett other collecters. Why the hell not?
  • And its 2855. You gotta remember. Im 26 at home all day and playing by my pc all day. I have alot of time to post. If 10% is a real contribution, isnt that still 10%? I feel I contribute more than that, but Im sure others will flame. But I may feel the same about them, so it all evens out really.

  • I don't have an opinion about the "correct" position about the subject of the Thread discussed by this OP. I have a thought about this OP. I do not concur that anyone "lost it". I am constantly surprised by the phrases that are used to convey thoughts on the Board, such as those used on the other Thread, but I must say that the choices used do tend to challenge me from time to time to find the latest dictionary and discover if original usage of said phrases are appropriate for the context. Sadly, that is not the challenge of this OP. The challenge here is to understand the purpose of posting a description(albeit incorrect) that is certain to cause the responses to stray toward the phrases used on the other Thread, leading to a continuous cycle of discourtesy. Respectfully, and Without Malice. John Curlis
  • Adam, while your "popcorn" responses arent exactly bashing per se, would you at least consider that they may be somewhat instigating at the very least? And further, they add very little to the substance of the topic of the thread? Dan Henderson via 5 rd UD over Anderson Silvaimage

I have to wonder if this guy (Realone, not Russ) is a reincarnation of MBT
  • Your right. I am an instigator. I didnt start it though. Like my mom said, if I have nothing nice to say, dont say chit. Id rather eat popcorn and watch then get banned again. I like it here and love popcorn.image

  • Wait a sec... Have you made it a point to confront FastRudy about his popcorn eating activity??? I feel singled out now...
  • My 2 cents: I have studied certain varieties and come to the conclusion that pricing them can be difficult at best. The one example I just finished researching, the coin was on fire when it was 1st discovered and has cooled offer considerably since then. Over the past 2-3 years, it has been completely flat. I pointed out to a dealer at the Long Beach show that one of their coins was said variety (it carries little to no premium). And if they cross it, I can track it more easily. The dealer argued with me about it. In other words, even he didn't know what to look for.

Moral of the story: If you are going to sell a specialized, rare coin you need to find the correct audience (i.e. a specialized dealer).
  • Russ was just stating information about running a shop

the original poster bought an error coin with a low population that is worth?

wants top value, did not get offered it

expects to get near last reported auction price

some nimrod started blabbing about taxes and mark-up ,....
and B&M shop trying to rip customers....

try trading that nickel for the pick-up
