How to you order your sets?

I am seriously thinking of reordering my sets by team vs. numerical. How does everybody order their sets? It seems like having the sets in team order will really give you an idea of the players on each team every year and I think they would present better in the binder.

    That's a great question.

And not a bad idea - it would make it easier to see who's represented by each team - of course the other cards - could be placed after them.

That's the great thing about cards - ya can get as creative as ya like.

When I was a kid, we used to put the players down on the bed by position - then trade.

Hard concept to see today - when I was a kid - we PLAYED with our cards...

Definitely numerical, or alphabetical by last name for unnumbered cards. Anything less orderly offends my non-creative brain image. From a pracical perspective, it would be too onerous to find any specific card if they were organized in some other way.
No such details will spoil my plans...

Have 2 sets per year and do one numerically and one by team.

Thanks guys for the feedback. Alan, I agree with you about maintaining order, but part of me thinks its cool seeing all the teams together. That is how I did it as a kid when I put them in the plastic card lockers.

Nam, two sets would be tough due to space limitations.

Stone, I never laid my cards out by position, but I remember bringing the shoebox of cards over to my friends house for trades. It was also cool having a brother around who was in the hobby and still is today.

I am still on the fence.

I used to do the same thing... I was(am) a Cowboys fan and I would put the cards in offensive formation by position and my buddy who was a Steelers Fan would put his steelers cards out in Defensive formation. We would then play a game rolling dice, and who ever got the higher number got to pick a card from the other guys doubles deck. Oh to be a kid again!

I thought this would be appropriate to post again - it captures the essence of collecting during the fun days where there were not Becketts.

  • I like the idea, but I think I would go nuts when trying to look cards up in a price guide if not by number.

I have to go by number, the colors would be messed up if I went by team.

    Good for you.
  • I just noticed my post made absolutely no sense, lol. I think what I meant that once I know the card number from a price guide, it would then be a little tedious trying to find it in a binder (especially larger sets).

  • For baseball sets, in order from most plate appearaces/batters faced to fewest would make the most sense
