  • Am I the only one NOT surprised that Hampton got scratched from his start tonight? Is it time for the Braves to cut their losses with this guy and move on?

Not sure you can cut losses with someone like him and his contract. No one will trade for him so the only other option is to release him. I'm not sure how his exact contract is structured, but even when you cut someone you still have to buyout or pay a large portion of their salary. As long as we're forced to pay it, we might as well get they hype and maybe a few starts a year. image

Not so sure what's going to happen with the #5 spot this year. The first three are obvious with Smoltz, Hudson and Glavine. Jurrjens should remain at the #4 unless he implodes. I'm not impressed with Bennett. We have guys like Buddy Carlyle (who got shelled tonight) and Jo Jo Reyes, hanging around in Richmond that could spot start like they did last year until Chuck returns.

Who knows, it's still way early to go crazy over anything. Look at what the Marlins did in 2003, they basically started their season in May and won the World Series.

I am more annoyed with these early losses than worried.

I will give Bennett props for pitching last night with zero warning.

Goot nailed it, we will be cutting ties with Hampton and his large pay after this season. That money will be the Mark Teixeira money, and if that doesnt work, it will go to one of the many other 1st baseman that will be on the market and a pitcher to replace Glavine, who i assume will retire after this season, and smoltz cant be far behind. I would love for them to splurge on a young pitcher after the season is up. We will see, all of this is still a year away.

cox isnt stupid. he knows best shot at beating mets and santana tomorow is smoltz. glavine was supposed to pitch against pelfrey. rainout helped braves big time.

no excuses they smacked mets around today largely bc willie doesnt know how to use a bullpen.

lol i laid a couple of excuses up there already! this is going to be a very fun year for baseball. lots of teams will be contending come september!

I was JUST going to write this. That explains his jump from #27 in the system to #1 within one year....

I never liked him that much to be honest with you. I was always more of a Brandon Jones guy and Heyward looking more towards the future.

Nice top see the O come alive yesterday. Francouer with 7 ribbies! If tex heats up, we can rip of a bunch of wins in a row here.

I have mixed feelings about Bennett. Ok, i realize this is the second time in just over a week he had to pitch on very short notice, but how in the world can you walk in two runs in a row!? Throw a fricken strike! If they hit it, or well, they earned it. Walking in one run is bad enough, two is rediculous. Like i said, i give him props and respect for going out there twice in a short span in that situation, but that just wont cut it.

Chipper continues to light it up, Tex had a couple hits, and Yunel is quickly making a name for himself. This was a very frustrating game from begining to end. Too bad McCann couldnt get a hit in the last AB.

Smoltz shuttin down the fish also. I figured Bobby would keep him in longer to give the bullpen a break.

  • Seriously, how good is Chipper Jones? It seems like year in and year out he's one of the top offensive guys in the league, but never gets a lot of "media love".
Atlanta Braves, Charlotte Hornets, Shawn Kemp, Dale Murphy, and Bobby Engram.

  • << <i> never gets a lot of "media love". >>

I know he had a couple down and injury plagued seasons, but getting no media love has lead to him not having an AS appearance since like 2001 I believe. It's a shame, because he definitely deserved it last year at the least.

chipper is very good and under-valued. he is fun to watch.

how about smoltz 10 Ks in 5 innings, unreal performance.

Chipper fell to the 6th round in my draft this year and I scooped him up, after I did everyone laughed that he was sure to NOT play a full season because he always gets injured even now he the guys are still throwing that at me! Hopefully he can continue this high level of play..

At least Gonzalez, Glavine, and, supposedly, Hampton coming back soon. Just need to hold it together until we get healthy.

How does Acosta let that ball through his legs???

Why can't we have ANY clutch hits EVER?

Why are we winless in one-run games???

Argh. Hope May brings some good cheer for us Braves fans.

Nice to see Hudsobn throw a gem last night!

Now, it time to put kelly in the 7th/8th spot where he belongs, he is dragging the offense down. Kotsay would be better lead off than kelly.

How can we not win a frickin game on the road!? This is getting old. I still think Kotsay should bat leadoff with Kelly down in the order. Nice games by some young pitchers, we just cant get the road games or the 1 run games. At least we are not getting blown out in our losses, we are a few bad breaks away from a fantastic record. It will come around.

Chipper's finally cooling off as well. I think he's 0-9 in the past two games and his avg. is down to .400, I think. Hopefully the day off will give him some rest. He's the major catalyst this year and without him, this team is going nowhere fast.
  • bigfischebigfische Posts: 2,252 ✭✭
Yeah i was kinda bummed they got rained out today, but then i realized it might be good for the team, of course, a double header tomorrow might negate the positive, but at least for the first game we will have fresh legs out there.
